No. But the research she does, the PhD on her wall, and the results she gets, do.

Research, results, and a Ph.D. do not a scientist make. That said, since you seem hellbent on assuming everyone is besmirching your girlfriend's good name, you should probably stop taking general observations so personally.

After all, "generally not a science" is not synonymous with "always not a science" ...

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc. have all led to great scientific advances. What has psychology ever done? Figured out that maybe you shouldn't hit your kids, or that you can train dogs with food (which has already been known)?

*smirk* Psychology has yielded the drugs you take to keep you vaguely sane....

Actually, that's psychiatry, neurology, and psycho-pharmacology.

A PhD doesn't make you a scientist, either. Khross has two, and he's not a scientist.

Let me spell it out for you: psychology, sociology, and all of the other "soft sciences" reside in the humanities departments of universities - the same department as the literature and history professors. Usually they're located all the way on the other end of the campus from the science department.

EDIT: I have been updated on the size of Khross' PhD-penix

What defines pure research? Most social scientists I've met have motives and methods that don't truly qualify for the pure epithet.

That's because they lament the imminent addition of a new member to their post-Riov support group.

Any experiement which can not be reproduced and the results replicated would be void in any other field and taken with a grain of salt. Most psychology research done on human variables (perception, emotions, personality, thought process) can not be reproduced in a double blind study using different subjects. Thus most of their research isnt considered research amongest other scientists.

Psychology have branched out into some really useful sciences (Khross gave some examples), however the down side is that's left psychology with less science than it started with.

Statistically it can be shown what works. Even physics can't predict the individual decay time of a specific particle but it does provide statistical probabilities.

Phychological statistics have it's own bias as it's based on the sample size and geographical location. A question of, "do you like pie" will change signifcantly between China and Spain.

The half life or rate of decay for any element for example does not change no matter where in the world it is done. There is no statistically significant difference from carbon decay in china as it is in spain.

psychological statistic is time dependent, this era might change their answers to the next.

Carbon was decaying, is decaying and will decay at the same rate.

The bias is towards Conservative. Because the more educated people get the more they realize liberalism is a mental disease.

And humans are vastly more complex than an atom. It doesn't mean that its not possible to create models, perform experiments, and yield results.

No science holds up to the standard you're trying to make. Medicine doesn't work universally either-- what drug works for one person might not for the next, what sample of bacteria reacts to one antibiotic is not universal either. It hardly means medicine isn't a science. There are differences across genetic populations there too.

Medicine isn't really a science. It's the practical application of science. It is scientific, certainly, and makes use of a variety of sciences, but medical training is primarily technical in nature (yes, I take a lot of classes down at our med school).

Medical researchers, by and large, have a graduate degree in some other science, and the medical degree helps integrate their work into practical application.

It's more similar to Engineering fields (also not really science- they apply more than research). Now granted, depending on the subdivision, there is definitely some science that goes on, although I'd say mostly in biomedical engineering. Most of the others are focused on making something useful out of other peoples research or early proof concepts. I work with a lot of research engineers, and I respect their work hugely- they are great to collaborate with- but I wouldn't call it science, per se.

Psychology is too broad of a category to really split up. As has been mentioned, there are really three sub-fields: Counseling (psychoanalysis, etc), Social psychology, and physiological psychology.

The latter two usually fall under the sciences, the former not so much. Social psych can be more or less scientific depending on how it's done, but is certainly one of the behavioral sciences. Just like sections of biology.

Physiological psych (often what Neuroscience research and programs fall under) is much closer to cell and molecular biology, and is definitely a science.

Oh- and if you want to know who makes those drugs, it's chemists and engineers. Made and developed, respectively. Neurologists find the targets, and psychopharmacologists look at the mechanisms, effects, and pharmacology of the drugs. Chemists find and design them. And engineers make them.
