Washington Times article regarding a ~$1 million grant to ACORN from DHS.... some choice quotes from the article:

Quote:
Nearly $1 million in Homeland Security funding typically earmarked for fire departments has been awarded to ACORN

Quote:
It was one of only three such grants issued to the state and made up almost 80 percent of the firefighting money earmarked for Louisiana

Quote:
The Monroe Fire Department was the only squad in Louisiana to receive a grant and will be awarded $192,000. The Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office will receive $62,000.

ACORN received $997,402, slightly less than the maximum allowable grant of $1 million.

This absolutely reeks of political payback.

And how does ACORN respond..

Quote:
When asked how the money would be spent, ACORN spokesman Brian Kettenring issued a statement criticizing the senator, who confessed in the past to having used an escort service.

Quote:
"This is speculation, completely false and not based on any documentation or any audit or anything other than two disgruntled former board members," Ms. Lewis said Tuesday at a National Press Club news conference during which she accused the group's critics of racism.

And for those that haven't been following the news, the reference to the embezzlement charges, which we have discussed on these boards before as direct evidence of criminal activity at ACORN, can be found here in this Reuter's article from 2008 and catch up on the lates claims that the embezzlement was actually ~$5 million, not the ~$1 million previously admitted.

Arguably, that money probably better served the taxpayers, as it was likely spent on frivolous purchases, and might have saved a job or two at a boat building company or a construction company. ACORN would have surely wasted it on something that would have likely cost taxpayers even more money.

KBR lost something like 20 billion dollars. It just went poof. They also prevented their employees from reporting sexual assaults. One of their female employees was gang raped, and then chained in a shipping container for days.

There was these two guys who broke into a house in my hometown that had two young couples in it. They raped the women and tormented them all for several hours and then took them out to a field and shot them all. Luckly one of the women survived and walked several miles in the snow, naked, to get help.

Oh wait...you mean this isn't a thread to recount bad things that people do? It was specifically about ACORN and other stuff like this isn't really relevant? Sorry, I got confused after Monty's post.

Oh, crap - you're right. Nevermind, then, what ACORN is doing is OK.

I can only find articles at small news agencies about it, but I've read that ACORN is only losing its funding for one month. So basically they get to continue state-sponsored, tax-payer funded corruption.

As for that $20 billion figure for KBR, the company has far from a clean record, but I don't see anything that even approaches that amount of money. I also don't see that any money just "went poof" or was "lost".

So wait. Montegue brought in a "point" which was unsubstantiated and near fiat in nature and ultimately ended up being irrelevant regardless?

I think the technical term is "par for the course".

I'm sure the people who did the fliming of ACORN will release their videos in a timing to keep them in a negative light. It's gone from exposing corruption to making ACORN an albatross to hang around Obamas neck.

9 billion lost in Iraq, 2005

KBR wastes billions

I did get my wires crossed. In fairness, it was pretty difficult to tell the prvious administration's fumbles apart from their pet company's.

Funny part about your statement is that it can extend to Obama and his pet ACORN.

Isn't this a thread about ACORN and their corrupt nature?

Wow, so ACORN is corrupt in it's nature because a few of their employees are corrupt?

Is blackwater/xe corrupt because a few of their employees are corrupt? Or are their actions an indicator of a problem within the organization that needs to be investigated?

In the case of Blackwater, the corruption began at the top. I think it's one thing to say an organization is corrupt all the way through and another to try and make that case based on selected videos of a few employees.

Furthermore, Blackwater and ACORN are different on many levels, but the most glaring difference is the raw size of the organization. ACORN boasts 400,000 people. Of *course* you are going to find all kinds of idiots and what not in an organization that large.

Blackwater? They are a group of for-profit killers. Why they can get away with that and a hit man can't, I'll never understand. I just don't see much of a comparison there.

The same reason the Army can get away with killing people and a hitman can't.

No, in fairness, you invented a number that was more than twice the actual number and didn't even apply to the company you said it did.

The Army is not a private, for profit organization. At least, not in theory. Our military is controlled by our civillian government, which is elected by the people. They have a duty the country, not to their bottom line. That is why they are different.

So, the fact that they lost/wasted more than the amount that I originally claimed is completely lost on you?

Ycompletely wrong. Blackwater is different from a hitman because they kill with legal sanction. A hit man doesn't. Money isn't what matters; there's lots of murderers in jail that never got a dime.

You originally claimed 20 billion. The number your revision indicates is 9 billion. Don't bother editing the post now, either.
