Sometimes I think it's silly that so many social networking sites have limited design so much. Then I remember what the user-generated pages used to be like.

MEIN EYES, THEY BLEED!

And if for no other reason, it's why Facebook is superior to MySpace.

The goggles, they do nothing!

I was wondering why XKCD looked so strange this morning, but didn't have time before work to figure it out.

/mourn Geocities and their "neighborhoods"

Three cheers to XKCD for once more being spot on.

Person A and Person B are playing a FPS.
Person A calls Person B's roomate (Person C) and convinces Person C to use the microwave, disrupting Person B's wifi
Person B's character then freezes on screen, allowing Person A to get an easy kill in game.

Right, but what did that have to do with Geocities?

The comic was unrelated, but the homepage was "redesigned" to mimic a typical Geocities page. It loses something without the garishly-animated background evident (as well as the scrolling Comic Sans text), but here's a screenshot:

I particularly like the dark blue text on black background. People did that kind of stuff all the time on geocities. Made it impossible to read.
