I recently was thinking about since Foamy and I worked at certain places before our current jobs, of all the places that we "put out of business" since we worked there. What I mean is after we quit these places have had a string of bad luck. Ok let's see. The age years maybe silghtly off because until I taught full time I always had two jobs.

16 years old- Worked at Dairy Queen and it has since been knocked down for houses
16-19 - Worked at a private owned pharmacy that has since been out of business after I quit a year later
19-22- Worked at Tiffany's restuarant-Met Foamy- It went out of business while we were both there and the two other
restaurants to buy the establishment went out of business- Which we patroned.
19-22- Worked at Georgetown Leather- Out of business- Year after I quit
20-21- Worked at the WHYY Store of Knowledge- went out of business 6 months after I quit
21-22- EB Kids- Went out of business a year after I left
22-23- Short Stuff DayCare went out of Business

That is 9 including the two other restaurants we patroned.

The RITE AID I worked at for about 8 years somewhere in there is still open but I'm waiting. Now 31 nothing new has gone out of business.

The movie theater I worked at when I was 17 closed down years later when a new cinema opened on the other side of town.
The Super K-Mart I worked at when I was 21 about 5 years later.

None, though I've also worked for very few companies anyways cause I always end up keeping a job for a long time, CVS for 2 1/2 years, American Science & Engineering for 8 years and my current company for 8 years.

Two, maybe three. One directly attributable.

1 - Retail (Sporting goods). Still still in business, in the same building (although I helped other locations open and close during my stay).
2 - Software Development (Printing and Mailing). X Went out of business a year after I left.
3 - Desktop support (Technical School). Still in business.
4 - Data Entry (Medical Electronics). N/A Merged with much larger medical electronics company.
5 - Software Development (Miscellaneous). X I left due to instability, unfortunately my leaving put the final nail in the coffin, it went out of business after i left.
5.5 - Cleaning (Medical Waste). ? My wife and I worked together here as a second job during my time at job five. No idea if they're still in business or not.
6 - Development / Support -> Management (Healthcare). Been here seven years and business is looking up. One of my bosses from a past job even came to work for me.

Pastabilities - Closed less than a year after I left.

Tiffany restaurant - (Privately owned) Closed while I was still employed. It became a Valley Forge brewing company (Closed), DeBears (Closed) and it remains a P.J. Whelihans. Oonagh and I ate at the establishment in all of its various iterations. We only succeeded in closing 3 of the 4 so far.

Family owned retail store called "Winston's Game Company" - The owners could no longer pay the rent for their small establishment in the highly overpriced King of Prussia Plaza. I was the manager of this sinking ship.

While working at UPS, I went to the Cittone Institute for a certificate Computer Networking - Cittone is now closed, or perhaps they were absorbed by Lincoln Tech. Either way, they're dead. UPS is still alive and kicking, though.

From there I got a job at CompUSA. A year or so after I left there, they closed the store in a move to become mainly a web presence.

Worked at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals for almost 5 years and my curse continued and managed to take down even this mega giant as Wyeth was bought by Pfizer just about a year ago.

I think there were more as Oonagh and I constantly joked about our apparent touch of death to such businesses.

No closures for my past jobs. I assume it's because my stellar work afforded them higher esteem and profitability. /sagenod

Three places I have worked at over the years have gone under:
1. Veneer mill I did receiving for in my 2nd year of college
2. the Weyerhaeuser pulp operation where I did my engineering internship
3. The bar/restaurant where I bartended and waited tables

I'm quite surprised at some of the places that haven't.

Do you know that every time you or anyone posts this, I visualize someone actually 'sagenod'-ing.

You are trying to control my thoughts, aren't you? GOOMH!

The restaurant I worked at off and on for about 5 years closed about a year after I quit for good.

I worked briefly at a Hilton reservations call center which, again about a year later, got outsourced to the Philippines and no longer exists here.

Haven't really worked anywhere else aside from temping or volunteering briefly but I don't have a good track record so far!

Or... perhaps it's a really great track record that they stay afloat when I was there? Yeah I have trouble even typing that out grumble grumble... :p

Required to do an internship for my current degree so we'll see if I curse any more places relatively soon!

Just one. But it went out of business while I was working there.

Not sure. I waited tables at a Chi-Chis, and now they are a different restaurant.

Could be same ownership, I don't know.

Hmmm no where that I have worked has gone out of business. On a related note, I am available for-hire, only asking a base starting salary of 100k/yr.

I've had two jobs in my entire life. One was working for the US DoD.. the other for a large international wireless provider.

Neither is in any danger of going out of business....

Not sure these count:

East of Chicago Pizza locally is under different ownership and has a new building, so it's essentally a different entity.

Office World is now Virtual Technologies, but run by one of the old salesman.

However, none of the buildings I want to elementary, middle, and high school in exist anymore.

Hmmm. Just one so far, I think.

Although, the chain is still on life support in Flagstaff AZ (at least it was a year ago).

It was a '50s-themed diner called Galaxy Diner and I was one of the Soda Jerks/Fountaineers. I worked there my senior year of high school for minimum wage (with a raise a year later to 10 cents more).

Fun place to eat at and hang out.... less fun to work at, but I do miss a lot of the coworkers.

This picture is one of the only surviving mementos I have of the place.

Hudson Oil - Gas station

Memorex - it failed and someone bought it and kept the name.

AMT - we made computer and video tape before it all pretty much went overseas

Ampex - another computer, video and audio tape manufacturer, as well as a bunch of other stuff. It failed because of overseas competition and the man who started the company got old and died. His successors weren't well chosen.

I worked for Kelly Services for quite awhile, several companies I worked at failed but I was working for Kelly and don't really count them.

CalWest Insurance was bought by American General and my office was moved to Texas, again, not a real failure, but we were all laid off anyway.

I'm still working for the State of California, it hasn't failed yet..

The city I was born in no longer exists at all, not even in name nor does anybody live there. Does that count?

Thanks!

I got to be quite the pro at doing two at a time (good quote there too). I could do four at a time, but not nearly as consistently as two.
