See, this just validates my theory that pre-announcing server names just causes trouble. You pre-announce names, and you get large groups of people married to specific ones, and only the initially announced ones. Opening new servers to ease load is less effective, because everybody has to stick to the one they're queueing for anyways because that's what all their friends agreed to be on.

Better to surprise people, and let them email their friends when they make a character, IMO.

It's launch day. I wouldn't expect to be getting on immediately. I'm just looking forward to the possibility of logging on late tonight, since I don't have any obligations tomorrow. I know some people take off work for the launch of video games, but I know I wouldn't take off for the launch of an MMO, if I had a job, of course. At least a disc based game is, pretty much, guaranteed to work flawlessly on launch day. An MMO depends on the volume, servers, and other technical thresholds.

Based on the reports of a friend who was trying to get onto Faeblight all day, we called an audible and switched to the newly opened PvE RP Estreal.

Yeh. I was lucky enough to get in like a few seconds after the launch. Was sitting @ server select and saw them start to go green ;)

After finally getting a couple hours in (not due to queue waits, just personal), I made it to level 8. With this being my first experience with the game, I'm impressed so far, even though it's just the first few levels. Right from the get go, the game feels intense. I'm really loving the way they leave it up to you to create exactly how you want your class to be. I never thought I'd ever see a Marskman, Ranger, Bard combo, but that's me.

My Steam account is currently downloading this game, although I swore to never buy another MMO. I blame certain people of the Sciuridae family and certain Marvel Comic fans for this purchase.

Riftstalker is great fun. I think it was here it was said, or maybe somewhere else, but yes, tanking something by confusing the **** out of it is bloody amazing :)

Hmm, the hook is setting deep in the armored one.

Got sucked into ordering the game today by my brother, and I'm blown away.

I knew the public quest system from warhammer could be amazing if implemented well, and my oh my do these guys know how to do that. It just always feels like there's something crazy going on.

Now if they would only have made the collection thing they stole from EQ2 better, instead of a straight copy... The OCD collector in me hates not being able to find some pieces... sigh.

I thought the collection thing was a bit novel, in that sometimes you'll find pieces that fit into multiple collections.

*shrug*

Still the kind of thing that will annoy OCD completionists for hours upon hours, though, hehe.

Some of those artifacts are only gathered through rift events too (from what I've seen), so it could be very hard to collect 'em all.

I'm having such a good time with this game. I think it takes a lot of great features from all games in way that suits it well. Personally, I feel like they went a little overkill with the cloning of WoW's interface and overall feel. They could have easily gone with different colors for uncommon/rare/epic items, just as an example of the straight up clone they did for a lot of it. That said, it sets itself apart from WoW enough, specifically with the class system and rift events, that it'll keep me.

Even though I have a feeling it's mostly going to be a solo grind to 50, the rift events give me just enough of that group atmosphere that I'll be satisfied. It's such a refreshing change to see level 10-15's all working together, 20-40 at a time, to close a rift. I don't recall ever having anything exciting in WoW from 1-50, outside of the occasional break from soloing when I would do a one-group instance. It sure makes the noob zones more entertaining, as I'm sure I'll need it to be the second time around when I reroll a new character. I tend to find it difficult to repeat the same exact quests and zones over in an MMO, so the rifts will certainly help make it more fun the second time through. I can already see how a cleric may actually spec in a way that benefits healing in the early levels, as crazy as that is in an MMO these days due to the solo fest they've become, completely because of the rifts and how much fun they can be. I think I'll make a cleric and just go heal and buff people in the rifts, for my next character. I've noticed not everyone is obsessed with being a DPS freak. There are genuine support classes in this game. For example, as a bard, I'm constantly making sure my Motif is up to increase the group's attack power and whatnot.

Have you really dug into an invasion, yet, Roophus? If 30 level 15's closing a rift has impressed you, wait'll you get one of the super-elite invasion bosses. That was nuts the time I saw that in beta!

I wish it weren't quite so solo quest-on-rails grindy; that's something WoW brought to the genre that I just plain don't appreciate; I'm presented with the option to be bored stiff because I'm soloing, or bored stiff because I'm grouping solo content that offers us no challenge. That said, as you're touching on, the other parts of the game are good enough that I'll suffer through the rails to get at it.

At least I was noticing that soloability was getting more challenging as I crested 20; I'm hoping that means that by the mid-twenties small groups won't utterly trivialize the quest-on-rails content, merely make it comfortably safe. I could probably live with that.

If there's one thing I don't like, it's the solo oriented, "quest-on-rails" aspect of the 1-50 game. You're right, WoW did introduce it, clearly in an effort to cater to the casual crowd, and I haven't been a fan since they did. This solo quest grind approach to leveling is something I could definitely do without. Honestly, I could do without *any* quests from 1-50. I wouldn't shed a single tear. As long as the game was group oriented, I wouldn't mind soloing, grouping, and rifting all the way to end-game. It's far more mundane to me to run around to 100 different quest hubs than it is to just solo/group grind my way the old fashioned way.

That made me lol irl. I said the same thing to my friends that pulled me into this.

So, ding 28 last night. Anyone doing the dungeons? Darkening Deep or Foul Cascade specifically. I'm curious how tough they are. My PvE skills are kinda rusty if it's challenging.

I really enjoy the rift aspect of this game, it's pretty amazing. Moving from freemarch to stonefield was a bit of a downer though. I really enjoyed freemarch as a zone, but stonefield is just not as good.

The public group thing is amazing though. See someone soloing a mob you need? Just start up a public group with them, and you both get credit! The only problem being that they didn't implement this well enough in rift battles, you actually have to be in the group that tags some of the named mobs to get credit for them in quests. Which is a huge pain. They should also force people into the public groups if they attack rift mobs imo.

Went necro/warlock on my mage and it's pretty awesome. I almost always get gold in rift events and such as long as I'm there early enough. Bought one other role, but haven't even used it yet. Thinking about starting a pyro build or something, who knows.

What is it you want to know?

In general, having a ton of fun in the warfronts. I'm playing a riftblade build with some champion and beastmaster for the pet. The pet with no points put in to buff it up is pretty useless in PvP but I keep it for now.

Open world pvp is a lot of fun too so far. They set up the quests and locations to encourage it. This is on a PvP server btw, not positive what the restrictions are on the pve servers.

Yesterday I uhhhh "fought" a level 50 warrior on our server. I'm level 33. He was tanking about 5-8 "guard" npcs at our quest hub while 3 or 4 of us were trying to kill him and it wasnt pretty lol.

I could hit him though, and our effort was not coordinated in the least. Eventually he did go down heh. It was a fun distraction for a few minutes.

I'm enjoying the game tremendously.

Neat interview with Will Cook, who is apparently the Dynamic Content Lead.

Ugh, they really need to make invasion bosses spawn in a more centralized locations. Helping to clear out the entire invasion and then not getting to do the boss because you can't make it there before he dies is annoying.

More annoying is Scarlet Gorge, where by design the dominion does 75%+ of the work for every invasion, and so far 4/5 of the bosses have spawned on the guardian side, so we didn't even get a chance to touch them. The fifth? spawned almost right in the middle. Was a pvp mess, but awesome.

Freemarch is still the best zone by a significant amount, followed by scarlet gorge and way behind is stonefield. Just finished up scarlet gorge last night, so on to the next zone.

Just picked up the game.

Dash, what PvP server are you on?

Some guys from work also have the game but they rolled PvE....i swore i'd never make another mmo character on a PvE server--- so I think my main is gonna be on a PvP server, that is much more interesting to me nowadays. Loved it in WoW...I love open world random PvP.

Not sure how often i'll be online when you are, but maybe we can group up a few times.

Having serious amounts of fun kiting with a marksman. Haven't quite gotten mage-kiting down, yet, with my build. Oh well, I guess that's what the rock's for.
