Can we do anything like XKCD does? They're on phpBB and I really like their setup.

Uncollapsed subforums, or putting similar forums under headers?

What they do is basically what Mook did for the PBP games- separate header, with each subforum as a "full forum" underneath it. You can then create user groups "restricting access" to categories, if people don't want to see them (ala PBP games).

If you don't restrict access, on the other hand, it makes the list a lot longer (which seems to be a big deal for some people here).

On the other hand, it makes it so that subforums don't mark the main forums read.

I still think we have to many forums. Even the busiest forum we have has posts on the first page from a week ago. We're not exactly overflowing with posts here.

We're at 1/2 the activity level of 2006, and even then the Glade wasn't as active.
