Artifacts make me obsessive compulsive.

FYI for people at or around level 30. Get thine arse to Lake of Solace and grab the puzzle/cairnes there. I totally missed this at that level.

Can someone go into depth about this? I've started gaining other roles/souls or however you put it. How do you access them? If you switch, and then want to go back to your original, do you have to do all the point stuff or does it remember what your previous build was?

Hit "P" to access your abilities window. It'll have a tab for Roles. You can drag buttons to hotbars from there.

You can also view the different ones (and switch) from your normal soul tree window. This is also where you rename them.

You can switch anytime outside of combat, with a trivial (10 second?) timer between switches. It's probably a 3-5 second cast.

If you train an ability up to a new rank on one soul, it trains for all roles.

Each role has its own hotbar setup.

I don't have a tab for roles.

Then you probably only have one. You can purchase a second role for 30g, and switch between them when you want.

If you just want to drop a soul and replace it with another, you have to visit your trainer, and select "Reset my souls". Once all your souls are set to 0/0/0, you can swap in a different one by clicking on the big soul icon in the center.

Yes. go to your class trainer.

Role 2 is 30g, role 3 is 4pish, and role 4 is 20ish I think.

holy molee...

I hadn't been following this thread, but just spent some time catching up. This game sounds intriguing, especially the character flexibility...

I'm curious about a few things.

Does it have add-on's like wow? Or does it have the potential to become add-on dependant like WoW was? One of the (many) things I hated about WoW was having to tweak and patch (and replace obsolete) add-ons.

Beyond add-ons, how much flexibility is there in the command structure, and the ability to customize hotbuttons?

Custom UI's?

What are the best 'resource' sites? I assume zam to be one. What other sites exist that I can peruse to get a feel for the game?

Currently there are no addons, and no official support for addon API.

The UI is pretty customizable, everything can be moved and resized and such. There's a feature that you can import your UI settings from any character. Its actually pretty rad.

rift.zam.com is good.
telarapedia.com is a wiki site.

So far, the developers seem to be resistant to the idea of add-ons. There are some vocal parts of the community who keep asking/demanding APIs for it, or official additions to the UI for things like damage meters, but there's just as many who respond to them to shout them down.

The UI itself is, as Müs mentions, very configurable in the edit layout screen. There's a great system of snapping windows to the edges of other windows that allows you to have things expand and collapse as UI information appears and doesn't (so if I want my casting progress bar to be right above my hotbars, but that's also where I want my pet bar to show up when I summon a pet; no problem. I snap my pet bar to my hotbar, and then my cast bar to my pet bar, and the cast bar stays as far down on the screen as possible whether there's a pet bar up or not), which I've found has really helped keep my screen clutter free when I don't have as much information in it (as all the information sticks near the edge), while the relative locations (vs. absolute locations) means that the information doesn't crowd out and overlap itself if there's a lot of it to be shown.

The macro system is pretty powerful and flexible; it supports multiple abilities but one activation per button. So some souls lend themselves to putting their cooldown (or reactive) high damage skills on one macro so that if they're off cooldown, they'll be the ones that get used, and if they're on cooldown, it'll use a non-cooldown, lower damage ability instead. I haven't played with it, though, because the souls I play emphasize short duration buff rotations and token stacking to get the most out of them, while having few outright cooldowns.

Rogue Gameplay video. First part is Droughtlands, second part is some Iron Pineyness and the last part is a Level 50 groip daily rift (yes, we're in a 20 man raid for 5man content, but what the hell. It was fun.

First 2 parts I'm in my soloing Bladedancer/Riftstalker/Nightblade build, the raid thing, I'm healing (badly) in my Bard/RS/BD build.

Video is uploading now, it should be available in a couple of hours. Say about 9am PST or so.

I don't think the Devs are *resistant* per se to the idea of addons. I believe that they do want to allow them, and release a robust, functional API. I think they don't want to make some of the same mistakes that WoW suffered (epeen meters, gearscore, etc.). What a lot of the forum posters don't realize is the game's *three weeks old*.

It feels and plays like its been out much much longer.

Question about the planar currency(not sure what the official name is).

Should I just save that up for my later levels? I have 3 of the purple ones and 5 of the blue ones and a bunch of the regular stuff. I could afford some stuff right now. Is it worth it buying stuff early?

*edit* Way to much use of the word "stuff".

Planarite comes pretty quickly, so I wouldn't hoard it.

There are some nice blue and purple items in each zone that you can get with rewards from rifts there. Definately worth participating in at least 1 or 2 of the zone-wide rift events to get the blue and purple sourcestone bits.

For me Planarite seemed a little tight in Freemarch, but I've been rolling in it in Stonefield.

Got ya. I may just hoard what I have so far till I get to the next zone and spend it there. I'm 21 and just trying to finish up some of the quests in the Silverwood zone.

Also, be aware that blue and purple planarite currencies are zone-specific. The normal planarite is the only thing that can be carried from zone to zone to be used at planar vendors for different level ranges.

So if you're tight on planarite, go ahead and save. If you've got a couple hundred planarite saved up, buy some of the nice stuff if it's an upgrade.

If you regularly do rifts and such, you'll really never be wanting for planarite. I'm not quite 50, and in an afternoon of chasing higher level zone events, I had enough to buy my Flawless Source Machine (7500) and am sittingi at about 8k planarite again :)

The blue and purple stones are specific to level ranges.
Defiant side:
1-20 freemarch
20-30ish stonefields and scarlet gorge
30-40ish Scarwood and Droughtlands
40-50 Iron Pine Peaks, Shimmersand, and Stillmoor

Each group of zones uses the same sourceshard/sourcestone currency for the loots.

Ah, wasn't aware of that. So using my purple and blue ones in the zone I'm in is what I need to go ahead and do.

Exactly, assuming that Guardians are similar to Defiant, there should be a nice blue chest item for 2 blues and 75 planarite, and nice purple legs for 1 purple and 200 planarite. You can get weapons for 3 blues and some planarite, but honestly the dungeon weapons are better, so I think they are a waste.

So I made a Rogue/Ranger on Faeblight named Midgen last night. I think he's level 6 or so.

I kinda rushed through the first few levels, and wasn't paying too much attention to details. Is there anything I should be watching for in my inventory at this level?

Also, during one of my encounters last night, I saw a message pop up that said something about a 'Rare Monster' or something to that effect.

Unfortunately, I was already near death and died before I could read it. When I came back I looked around and killed all of the monsters in that area, but didn't see anything that looked 'rare'. FYI, this was in the first area you get to where there are aggressive (red) monsters, just before the first encampment.

What did I miss?

You missed that I play on Estrael. ;)

To more seriously answer your question, are we talking Guardian or Defiant? And were you out of the intro by this point? Trying to get an accurate picture of where you were.

Apparently I did miss that. I saw a post early in the thread that said you were planning on being on Faebright (I think). It's no big deal. I'm not sure how much time I'm going to have to play, and I have no compunction about rolling alts on other shards. =)

Midgen is Guardian, and I'm not sure what constitutes the "Intro".

I was probably level 4 or 5, and doing a set of newbie quests just before the area where you first see your trainer, etc... Does that help?

I think you saw a message concering a creature during a rift event. The bigger zone wide ones have some big critter to kill before the event is over. I get pop ups from the head good guys and the head bad guys telling everyone how they are going to defend/destroy this or that.
