So you think Presidents should be working during all waking hours? They have a large administration.

Filling out a bracket, fine.

Making it into a yearly *thing* with pomp and circumstance like its something important... that's what I have a problem with.

Although, honestly, while he's doing this, he's not pushing his socialist agenda... so yeah.

Honestly, i cannot see why one would give a **** about this. It's the job he's doing as president, for good or for ill, that matters.

I agree. Obama is having fun, I really don't see what the big deal is.

As long as we aren't in double standard and throwing a fit every time a certain former President goes home or to a baseball game, I don't really care what Obama does in his free time.

I'm less concerned with the President filling out a NCAA bracket as the fact that it seems to be treated as important news. My phone's news aggregator has had two different articles about this in its Top Stories section. You don't have anything else you could be reporting about than NCAA bracket choices?

There is no "free" time for a President. At a minimum, they're just "on call".

Anyway, I feel it is important for our President to be sane. To that end, let the man unwind once in a while.

And a poster like that costs less than $20 to make.

Firstly, it's taxpayer time and money. Secondly, nothing in the government costs $20 to make. I personally don't give a flying leap about this, but I think it's hypocrisy Obama is never criticized for golf outings, basketball pick-up games, or filling out NCAA brackets when previous presidents have for similar activities.

Bread and circuses I guess. Augustus was right. That does work.

Meh. You wont see me complaining when Bush or any other president threw out the first baseball or attended some other event.

Although Dick Cheney going hunting provides material for dozens of great jokes.

Obama does get criticized for that stuff; he just gets criticized by different people (i.e. Fox complains instead of MSNBC). Also, my impression is that Bush was pretty in-your-face about his time off - saying in interviews that he always went to bed early so he'd be properly rested (almost certainly false, of course), relocating operations to his ranch for an entire month every summer, etc.

Weird. I just charged the government $20 to make a similar poster.

Are you aware that you just posted this statement in a thread created to criticize obama for filling out an NCAA bracket?

I don't know. Have any of Obama's NCAA brackets been particularly accurate? Maybe the president really knows his college basketball. George W. Bush really loved baseball.

If I were a bigger basketball fan, I might be interested in Obama's picks for the Final Four.

President Obama's Bracket

He didn't wander very far off the chalk. Only a couple of minor upsets, and he picks Kansas to win it all (just like last year).

He picked Da Bears to win it this year (and then the Steelers after Cutler got curbstomped), so I wouldn't be too worried about his ability to predict the outcome of sporting events...

I don't particularly care. I'm just giving you two reasons why people might be ticked. As for the amount of money it costs, we'll never know since the executive doesn't give much insight into the spending it does. It certainly does waste time, though. Including the time he spends with the reporters. That's more a systemic problem, though. Not particularly a criticism of the just the NCAA brackets. The last statement I made is the one that should hold the most though. Don't excoriate other presidents and not this one. I disagree with you RD. I haven't heard any criticism of him for this except for partisans. That's fine by me. But then don't do it to others and show the double standard.
