I've been considering picking these up and giving them a try. I'm curious if anyone here has done anything with them.

I know they're hardcore. I've known plenty of people at work to start it and fail. One of them is a guy who works out religiously too. He told me the diet starting out is pretty close to Atkins.

Some guys at work tried it and liked it. Not sure if anyone did it long term. It looks similar to crossfit to me. Tons of different workouts. I'm sure it will kick your *** even if you already work out a lot.

Yeah, I figured the diet portion would be along those lines to get the results they are claiming. My concern then comes from how well is that going to stick long term.

It does seem to be similar to crossfit, same basic concept.

Nothing really bad about a ketogenic diet if you do it responsibly. I'm not sure what P90X does but if it's similar to Atkins that's what it is most likely. High protein, good fats and low "bad" carbs (but plenty of veggies) will get you lean and help retain lean body mass so long as you're working out too.

If you do it then go back to eating huge surpluses and bad food then fat will come back quick, but that's true of any program.

I don't disagree, however the issue is that most fitness programs don't address the psychological side of health, and the developing of good regular eating habits that actually change your behavior. I'm sure it would be easy to view the p90x program as something I have to endure for 90 days and then when I'm fit, I can back off. Makes it easy to slide back into the eating/exercise habits that got you out of shape in the first place.

Just another thing to consider and weight. And as always everyone is different, so it might not be a problem for some folks.

Yeah you're clearly better off making wholesale lifestyle changes. Making better food choices day to day. And really that's not THAT difficult. It's a pain in the *** sometimes, and can be more expensive that what you're used to , but it's not what I'd call very hard.

Then, you can run a 3 month "boot camp" style run to kick start you in the right direction if you wanted to. I'd say P90x is a good short term motivator.

P90X is pretty intense. I know several people who have tried it and given up, including me and my wife. But we were both very out of shape when we tried it. It is highly recommended that you be in good physical shape before starting it.

That being said, if you are really curious about it, you can find several of the pdf's for the workout schedules online. The only thing you'll be missing is the videos that show you how to do each exercise. You can even find the diet plan if you are diligent enough. Might want to take a look into it, before you spend a lot of money on a program you might not even finish.

I'm about to start P90x. I'm not doing the diet, just the exercises.

I am also going to skip several workouts a week, as I am currently in marathon training. I don't want to over work.

So I'm not really doing P90x, I'm just doing some pieces of it.

Well, I finally go my back injury under control enough to start this.

Went through the first two days (3 workouts): chest&back, ab killer, and plyometrics.

Sweet Mary mother of God. I am sore places I did not know existed. I think my eyebrows are sore.

Heheh, yeah, I had to ratchet myself waaaay back when I started - I thought I tore something it hurt so bad.

I'm just about to start set three of P90X after just getting back from a trip.

It's pretty intense, but really works well. I still have a few sore days every week really, even with doing it for more than eight weeks now (did a few extra weeks here and there to work around life really).

If it's been a long time since the last time you've worked out regularly, you're probably better off with something less intense, but I think you can make it work if you listen to your body and don't overexert yourself.

I haven't worked out in a long time due to a back injury.

But, it's been about a week and thus far, I'm keeping up with the dudes on the videos. Lighter weights, obviously, but keeping up with the ab workouts, pushups, etc.
