I can totally respect this.

I rented a room at a line marriage household a long time ago. Too much drama, I decided I would be monogamous then. Celibacy works too, no drama at home anyway. Except for when my daughter visits.

That was a little too vague of a story, even for you. Details please!

One must first have a successful relationship with one person before adding another. :P

And I agree with LK on the cryptic story.

This was all between 25 and 26 years ago.

I was seduced, very willingly, by a lady who is still a friend, at an SCA event. Later she introduced me to her husband, a wonderful man I still like and admire. A little later I was invited to meet the rest of their family, and forewarned the family was not traditional. We began talking about the classic Heinlein novel "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" and I was told the family relationship was based on the concept of a Line Marriage shown within. When my housing situation once more became fluid I was offered the spare room at their place, a large house in the Oakland Hills. I gladly took it, and when she wasn't busy with one of her husbands, my lover slept with me.

The personalities were strong, actually much stronger than I was used to. Drama was a regular thing, but as mellow as I am most of it didn't involve me. I stayed with them for about six months, until their landlord decided to sell the house, then found a room elsewhere. My lover and I drifted apart more than broke up and she was very busy with the rest of the family and her many other activities.

I met the woman who was to become the big love of my life and my wife and never looked back. We hardly ever see each other anymore since none of us are truly active in the SCA and that was where we met and had most of our association.

The drama eventually led to the line marriage splitting up, I was sad to see that happen, but expected it.

What a long strange road it has been.

Now I'm a boring widowed monk who plays video games and knows way too much about addiction and how little the government chooses to do to help those afflicted with it.

Still looking for a mate in all the wrong places. If i was looking in the right places I would find one.

When my daughter visits there is usually some drama involved as she sneaks in references to how broke she is . . .

Thanks for sharing...I so have to read that book now that there's been two references to it in this thread.

And he still is, Kate. He still is.

(Hey, I'm 3 years from 40. I need to accept older people can still be cool...)

Oh definitely, I have no doubts about that...I met him in person after all. I just didn't think he would have been so amorously adventurous!

Well being with a wonderful lady for over 17 years seems to have changed my adventurous side to not willing to bother with the less than sane ones anymore. I also have developed a bad habit of enjoying solitude.

Depending how a supreme court case in British Columbia turns out, polygamy could be legal in Canada by the end of this year. (This is a "religious freedom" case with some "fundamentalist Mormon sect" pushing the pro-polygamy side.)

Keep us posted on that, Talya, that sounds interesting.
If it's legalized will you pick up a second spouse?

If you get a second spouse, and then your second spouse finds two more, and each of those find two more, and so on... sooner or later you could be married to a million people.

If it is legalized it will probably be limited to those people practicing a religion that permits or encourages polygamy.

Well technically if you look in the Old Testament and possibly the New Testament, can't remember, but you'd find a lot of polygamy there. So it could affect a lot of people.

Very few of the modern versions of religion allow polygamy. Even mainline LDS does not allow it, but only because it is against federal law and they wish to abide by the law.

I doubt it. It will either be legalized, or not.

Interesting to see how it would interact with legal same-sex marriages, here.

Interesting indeed...a harem with no men? A house full of gay men all married to each other? Sounds like a good comedy.

Tommy loves Bob who loves Andre' who loves Tim, Tommy's twin brother who doesn't live with them. Tim and Tommy have unresolved issues from exploring incest in their youth, but Tim is a successful straight married with children swimming pool contractor.

Andre' wants everyone to chip in for a swimming pool for the back yard. Bob's teenage daughters are coming to live with them because Mom is in jail for rigging an election. One of the daughters falls madly in love with Tommy at first sight and refuses to believe he is gay and having sex with all the other guys in the house.

Pastor Horace shows up and tries to convert the guys to heterosexuality, bringing several hot church babes over regularly. The other teenage daughter adopts the hot church babes as role models and an excuse to show off her 36DD chest, which none of the gay guys seem impressed by, except Phillipe Andre's old lover who is bisexual and keeps going "jail-bait" under his breath. Phillipe is a lawyer who specializes in Palimony cases.

Yeah, it writes itself as a tragicomedy.
