It looks pretty and all, but unless combat has been drastically overhauled, I won't bother. It just wasn't fun fighting in that game.

I loved sniping with a bow which was actually viable :)

That said, if my current system won't run it then I won't be playing the next chapter :(

Looks like they finally learned how to not make character models look like crap. Would still like to see the faces, though.

I'd avoid if it you didn't like Oblivion. That's like saying, "I'll check out the next Godzilla movie, as long as it doesn't suck like the other Godzilla movies."

Hope springs eternal. I'm incredibly glad I went to see the latest STAR TREK movie. Had I based my uninformed opinion on the fact that everything else ever bearing the name STAR TREK sucked, I wouldn't have gone to see it (three times).

There's always some anomalous chance that there'll be an ELDER SCROLLS game that isn't an incredibly soul-crushingly poor gaming experience. Hopefully it'll be this one. It'd be nice, since it's so pretty.

A friend of mine who'd sunk probably 400 or 500 hours into Morrowind was playing Oblivion one day and made the following comment:
Quote:
So, I bought this game for $65. Then I bought all the DLC for $35. Then I bought the expansion for $35. And after playing for a good long while, I realized I'd probably have gotten a better ROI from a hooker.

Oblivion was a pretty game (except the people) and it had a lot of cool areas. There was just never any need to go to any of them.

Fallout 3 was similar but at least there were mini-stories in a lot of their small dungeons/towns. The anticipation of some kind of reward for visiting the area was usually worth it. Oblivion, not so much.

I really don't get the hate for Oblivion. I completed all the quests in that and explored everything because the random loot based on level meant that you could find an upgrade anywhere you went at any level (especially if you spent some points on Luck). The quests were well thought out, felt rich and added a depth to the world and character.

I thought Oblivion was awesome. Actually, the only TES game I haven't really been able to get into was Daggerfall.

Oblivion is a great game. It's not gonna win any writing or acting awards, but it gave me a lot of entertainment. Can't say the same for the other TES games, though. This one is looking good, simply because Oblivion improved upon a lot of the garbage that Morrowind had, which made it infinitely more playable. So I can only assume that Skyrim will improve upon Oblivion.

I disliked Oblivion because I found it boring as hell. I didn't feel any urgency to do the main quest as I was not emotionally invested in doing it. Patrick Stewart saves me from prison, and I go see a dude that says to go do something or other, but no hurry, it can wait. Some priest dude gives me a horse, and I spend the rest of the game being chased around by every guard everywhere as a horse thief... No you fricking morons. He *gave* me this horse. And how the hell do you just *know* its a "stolen" horse? That place was a thousand miles from here... Seriously Mr. Random Guard_01 stop chasing me!

Ok, here's the village I'm supposed to save. Oh wait... I just got my face pwnt off by some sort of demon goblin thing... Well, I guess I better go level up a bit first. Wait, why am I even bothering? These people would probably put me back in prison just as soon as look at me. Seriously, screw these people, I'm gonna go become a gladiator! Ok, Yay! I'm the best gladiator ever. Now back to the first village, and maybe I won't get my face pwnt off by... wait... that's not the same demon goblin... What the... why is it pwning my face off? Ok, seriously, **** this game.

Paraphrased, but that's about my entire feelings on Oblivion.

I never really noticed that problem. Mostly it was a problem of "holy **** there's 5 of those goblin things pwning my face off" which is the entire series' biggest problem: it's incredibly hard to fight multiple opponents. Some of the problems just had to be written off as gamisms; once you got past them they weren't so bad. I especially found that gear was a lot more important than levels in avoiding face pwnage.

My big beef with Morrowwind was the hideously slow movement speed.

Learn to stealth+archery or learn to block. Not really hard.

Ditto, but once I maxed out acrobatics you could literally jump from mountain top to mountain top with some of the items that reduced falling speed. It was cool as hell

That, and the late-teens are notoriously difficult. The fighting curve is really tough in that period for some reason. After that, it's much smoother.

I will never forget the feeling of playing Morrowind for the first time. It was the first time I entered a world and actually felt like I was there, outside of Everquest. That's what I love about the Elder Scrolls series. Yes, it can get boring, since you're all alone. However, I'm a kind of guy that doesn't mind being alone to begin with. So I have no gripes there.

hehe...

1- you took the wrong horse, there are two or three in that stable, and you took the wrong one. You could have gone to jail and served the time and been done with it.

2- In the Lore for the Elder Scrolls games the guards are blessed by the ability to see things that are stolen glow. We had this discussion with Mark, I thought it was effing retarded, like you did... I just said meh and kept going.

3- I got nothing on the rest, it was not every one's cup of tea. But it got me playing games like that one the consoles... so that is good.
