*yawn* authority for authoritys sake is going to be his post I assume. I'll cut this down to the basics.

I'm going to disagree with the basis for most of your posts.
You're going to textwall things that most of us aren't going to read at this point.
Some folks will pick out a few statements here and there to confirm what they thing about either one of us.
It will degenerate into verbal gymnastics as always

So you've got your beliefs, I've got mine, and they don't mesh. Hence why I have to click on your posts to read them. Oh well.

No, DE, just the opposite. I was wondering if you were trying to see how many people you could get arguing with you.

You seem to be operating on the assumption that we don't know everything that's going on in the video. We do, though. You can hear every word of relevant conversation, and you have a text description of events leading up to it.

1) Where is this textual description?
2) How do we know it is accurate?
3) We do not know everything. Quite a bit is obscured, and I had to listen 4 times to get everything. I'm betting you didn't get it all the first time either, since Vindi also evidently didn't.

Here's the scene:

We were enjoying the nice spring weather from our balcony. A friend was visiting on his bike, and he rode up on the sidewalk from the street to our front door. In NYC this is illegal. You are supposed to stop in the street, get off the bike and walk it on the sidewalk. Although he was merely coming from the street up to our front door, those few second were illegal. NYPD rolls up and tickets him for this ($150 fine or appear in court!).

Meanwhile our neighbor walks by while this scene is unfolding. They exchange some banter. We all laughed. He keeps walking.

From there everything escalates... Seems completely unnecessary to me...

At the end of the day, he was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Welcome to an afternoon with the NYPD

You don't normally behave like that, and I wasn't being hostile towars you, so why you would ahve thought that is a mystery to me.

Just because I took issue with an immidiate assumption of defensiveness from someone else entirely?

Thanks Mook, but where do you get this?

In any case, if this is a textual description of what happened before, it's really just editorializing, not much of a source of facts. It's just another case of the law saying something is illegal and what the polcie can do about it, and people then getting up in arms with the cops rather than the city council when the law is enforced.

Posting a video is not trolling. I'm not responsible for your intense emotional reactions while discussing police videos. You also lack common sense here because you can't piece together a simple conversation, cannot understand the concept of a rotated camera, and don't know how to view a description of a Youtube video. All of these bewilder me. I do agree that the camera should have been turned to be aligned horizontally. The recording is still in high resolution and if you expand it, you can see it in sufficient detail.

Anyways, in this video the man made a joke to the guy on the bicycle. The bicycle guy actually laughed. The police officers decided this joke was a terrible offense and got out to confront him. He understandably got upset, and although he could have calmed down and apologized, it verbally escalated. The police officers did not have to treat him that way, and they certainly didn't have to arrest him. It looked like they were just trying to maintain an air of respect rather than law and order. Arresting people for small offenses is a burden on society, commerce, and especially well-being. The fact they didn't arrest the jaywalker shows just how arbitrary their actions were. The police officers should be reprimanded for this in my opinion. (no, not suspended without pay or shot Libertarian-style. just reprimanded).

When it is:
A) Your worthless *** and
B) posting the third cop story in close enough timeframe to be on the front page and
C) knowing the inclination of plenty of people here to go apeshit over anything involving cops, it's trolling

Quote:

That may be because I don't have any intense emotional reaction to them. The fact that people assume, and have for years, that it;s personal, is indictive only of the inability of those same people to deal with contrary viewpoints, especially when they know someone else has far more direct experience than they do from programming OS's all **** day. Your assumption that it's emotional on my part indicates only that you can't handle my opinions. Quite frankly, I have zero emotion at all because I know damn well that while you might rant and scream on the internet, the force of actual law in actual reality is going to keep things going according to my viewpoint and here is nothing your immature *** can do about it.

Quote:

Somehow I alck sommon sense because I don't know the intricacies of Youtube? Maybe that's because I ahve friends to drink beer with and a family to care for as opposed to sitting there jacking my dick over my latest line of code. I'm not the only one who didn't get the conversation the first time; Vindi didn't either. Are you trashing on him? No, because you'e a worthless little piece of whale turd that conveniently ignores that fact for people who aren't disagreeing with you. I'm sorry you got a ticket you disagree with, but you went to court and won. You can take your anti-cop resentments and use them to pleasure your prostate.

Your lack of basic reasoning power is not my problem

Hey dumbass, the fact of the matter is that the guy that "made a joke" decided to interrupt official busianess in progress. The fact that they did not just let it go is irrelevant. They were totally within their legal rights to do as they did, especially since the idiot making the joke stuck around to argue rather than just leave after his rude behavior.

Reprimanding officers for doing what is in their legal power to do is shifting responsibility for the law from the courts and legislature onto officers who do not determine what it is. This is indicitive of nothing more than your petty immature resentmant at getting a ticket. Grow the **** up. They were in the process of issuing the "jaywalker" (actually a bicycle violator) a ticket and did not arrest hime becuase it was not in their legal power to do so.

In fact, just shut the **** up. You are a pathetic little twit who is only posting this **** because you know A) much of the glade will eat up any complaint about police and B) you're pissed about getting a ticket, whichyou made your own thread about. Don't try to pretend innocence; I wasn't born yesterday and neither was everyone else. You have a long history of admitted trolling. This is either about you getting a kick out of the reactions or you being the pussy child you are and whining that you got a ticket and then had to go to court like anyone else.

Is Lex trolling you, DEye? You're the only one that gets upset. Wouldn't it be easier to not respond so much? Especially if you know they're just going to piss you off. :psyduck:

Also, I heart :psyduck:

It's really entertaining that you just assume it;s me getting upset, but never seem to assume that the people that go on these anti-cop rants get upset. Come one. It's just an easy way out to pretend it's all DE getting upset and everyone else being reasonable while you play with the new smile.

As for not responding so much.. I'll respond to the degree I have time. Come monday, my responses in this thread will drop. At the moment its my second to last boring Friday night. But then, how about if everyone else didn't respond so much either? No? No, that would mean admitting it's not just all about DE being "defensive".

No, Lex is trolling, and prett much everyone but me. If people were responding "bah, Lex trolling" like they do to almost everything else he says, I wouldn't have **** to say. But I know perfectly wellt hat they don't and won't.

Why don't YOU post less? hmm? Why do you need to pretend its me getting upset instead of actually dealing with what I have to say? This whole "why do you get upset/get angry/get so defensive" technique is just a way to ignor what I'm saying and pretend its all about me taking it personally.

I dunno, the more swearing and insulting one does, the more upset I assume they are. I don't usually swear at people and call them things while maintaining my calm. YMMV. I can't tell from text. Maybe you should include an upset level meter with your posts so I can tell.

Also, I'm not pretending anything, so **** off. (Now I'm upset) I'm just asking an honest goddamn question. If you think he's a troll, why reply? Isn't no attention considered the best practice for trolls? Trolls don't troll people that are agreeing with them. It's people that feel the temptation to post TL;DR posts about how the troll is so wrong and should DIAF and are trolls and stink and I AM NOT UPSET, OMG!

Someone is in denial about how trolled they are getting possibly, whether they are actually upset or not. Do what you like I was just **** asking, ****.

He's not even positing anything for debate or discussion. He's just posting a bunch of videos with no context. If he was trying to get a rise out of anyone, it would be you, since you are the person who generally defends the cops in any such thread ever. These three threads are pretty worthless on content of the OP, so I can't argue with that, but I question your technique of combating it.

Or, you could just stop assuming. I've been trying for 6 years to get my points across on this manner in a calm manner and it has gotten me nowhere, so why not do the same thing everyone else does and just rant?

Quote:

No, *******, you're not asking an honest damn question. Everyone is all on board with "Lex is a troll" until this topic comes up, then it's right out the window. Then you, and a few other people come in here and want to try to play this "well, why do you respond?" game. Well, gee, I respond to his troll *** regardless of the topic, and then mysteriously we get generalized "don't feed the troll" as oppsoed to that specifically addressed to DE, so it shouldn't be a surprise. Why aren't you asking everyone else where their belief that Lex is a troll suddenly disappeared to? That's right, you suddenly forgot about his habits too.

Quote:
Isn't no attention considered the best practice for trolls?

Who cares if it is? I haven't noticed it to be a particularly good practice. I'd say it's another example of the popular opinion being stupid.

Quote:
Trolls don't troll people that are agreeing with them. It's people that feel the temptation to post TL;DR posts about how the troll is so wrong and should DIAF and are trolls and stink and I AM NOT UPSET, OMG!

Funny, I haven't noticed that trolls particualrly care whether people agree with them, or even what anyone says. Some are lurkers that pop up and when no one pays attention they disappear, but that doesn't work with longtime members who are trolls. Seeing as he's going to get his reactions regardless, I may as well get my entertainmet while I have time over the weekend.

As for this I AM NOT UPSET crap, this is just a sheap-ass tactic to pretend you're talking down to someone who';s upset. First Ladas claims I must be "defensive", I respnd, now you show up with all this crap about being "upset". Well, Gee. I guess the only way to avoid being "upset" is to just be quiet. Obviously once your post exceeds some unspecified length, you're "upset".

Bullshit. I haven't seen you asking these questions of anyone else who has called Lex a troll over the years, so it's pretty damn obvious it has nothing to do with anything other than not liking my viewpoint.

Quote:
Someone is in denial about how trolled they are getting possibly, whether they are actually upset or not. Do what you like I was just **** asking, ****.
[/quote]

Someone is in denial all right, and it isn't me. Quit playing the "I was just **** asking" game. You want to discuss the topic, discuss the **** topic. DE is not the **** topic; I do not work for the NYPD. All thi scondesceding bullshit about "defensiveness" and "getting upset" is just a cute way of saying "no one else gets upset, but you obviously must be because you don't agree with everyone else". Grow the **** up. I'm not the one getting trolled here; I'm the only one not suddenly changing my mind about Lex's trolling based on what it is he's using to troll - with the possible exceptiong of Vindi and those who have not yet posted in this thread.

I watched the video, and I read the two pages of bickering.

In my humble opinion, the police were just doing their job and the guys milling around (including the guys filming) were escalating the situation themselves with their attitudes. I have seen this same type of behavior in teenagers with their parents or other adults when they are trying to test the boundaries and deliberately provoke authority figures in order to get the result they want in order to look good in front of their friends, incite a little drama, provide a self-fulfilling prophecy ("see man! I *told* you NYPD was crazy!") and have something to talk about. All they had to do was take their summons and argue it in court. If they really think they were not doing anything wrong by interfering with police business, then they can talk to the judge. No need for the attitudes and the drama on the street that only serve to accomplish making the cops' already difficult job harder, and waste valuable time that they could be using dealing with more pressing police matters. And yes, the guy was only on the sidewalk for a minute, but he still BROKE THE LAW. An officer has a duty to uphold the law no matter how minor it may seem. Just doing his job.

Why is this even post-worthy?

Lex, FWIW, I do believe you are trying to troll DE with these cop posts. That's not very nice. I've watched you come a long way since last year and I've taken you off ignore because of it. You've been a regular contributor and a lot of your comments and posts have been worth reading.

DE, I normally respect you and side with you on a lot of your stances. But your ranting, cussing, and calling people names makes you look like a fool who is at the mercy of his own emotions. I don't care what you *think* you are trying to accomplish or what you *think* you are conveying, what matters is what is actually coming across with your words, what everyone else sees, and with all due respect man, I'm telling you that you are not helping your case any with the way you have chosen to post lately.

Mookhow, that wasn't a very nice comment either.

Cookies and lemonade inside for those of you kids that chose to play nice.

I thought it was a really interesting video, and it was extremely popular on Reddit (out of tens of thousands of posts get no attention), where it provoked lots of discussion.
