Was looking and was surprised that there wasn't a post for this, especially since it's coming out in a few days. So is anyone getting this? I was trying to decide on if I should get it for the PC and hope my computer can run it fine or get the PS3 version and deal with the worse control scheme of using a controller when I found out that apparently with the PS3 version of the game you get the PC version for free thru Steam which is really awesome, now I don't have to decide which version :)

I'm looking forward to it, although it's purchase may have to wait until I have some income.

I'll probably get it...

On a related note, during my morning commute, I saw this announcement on at least 1 billboard and on the side of 3 mass transit buses. They are really advertising heavily, at least locally.

Yeah, I've been seeing lots of ads too for it, some of the ones they've uploaded on youtube are hilarious.

Will probably mostly play it on the PC, but getting the PS3 version for the reason Sas mentioned. The whole Steam/PS3 integration is pretty intriguing too (with knowing several people that will be playing it on PS3, it's cool that I'll be able to co-op with them while playing on PC).

I've got it pre-installed on the PC and ready to go. Except I gave up computer/console gaming for Lent so I will have to wait a few extra days. My kids, however, are chomping at the bit to play.

Jeez, P2 is $50??? I'm guessing there is much more to it than the first one. Although I think that was part of the charm of the first one.

I'm sure it will be just as boring and short as the original...but with multiplayer.

Supposedly it's significantly longer than the original and then the 2 player mode is another set of levels which is also longer than the original.

At this point, Episode 3 will probably turn into Half-life 3. I just want them to release it in whatever form it will be released in, though. Good lord it is taking them a long time.

Yes its supposed to be a full version game, currently on amazon, $55 for PS3 or 360 and $20 credit with the PS3 or 360 version, PC Version is $35, free release day shipping if have Amazon prime, otherwise I think its $1.99 for release day shipping or of course FSSS.

Best Buy also has the same deal, $20 reward zone credit with P2.

So can 360 and PC play co-op or is that just PS3 and PC??

From what I've read it's only the PC and PS3 that can, 360 is out of luck with cross platform co-op.

Oh well, guess I'm stuck with the other 100 million 360 owners.

That's bizarre, really, since both the PC and 360 should have access to Windows Live for multiplayer...

I really can't decide if I want to get this for the 360 or PC.

I don't play much on my PC anymore, rather I find myself gaming on my 360. Also, i don't know if my PC will run it well as I don't keep up with upgrading it anymore.

Usually I'm not fond of the first person type games on console due to less precise controls (Thumbstick < mouse) but this isn't a twitch shooter, though. I am guessing that precise control is less of a consideration than puzzling and perception skills.

Thoughts?

I've played Portal on both platforms, Foamy. I prefer it on PC. For the first 14 or 15 levels, I felt comfortable on the 360. But as the number of flying portal shots increased, and especially after finishing the tests, I appreciated the mouse precision much more.

As for running it well -- it's still a Source game, so the system reqs haven't increased that much. The requirements are the same as the recommended specs for the first Portal -- 128 meg DX 9.0c video card, 2 gigs RAM under Vista/7, and a 3.0Ghz P4 or better.

Portal 2 is using Steam for it's multiplayer, and Valve is bringing an incarnation of it to the PS3.

I'm kinda excited about the Steamworks thing too. Games will be saved in the Steam cloud, so you can save a game on the PS3, then continue your game on the PC and vice versa...and I imagine other Valve/Steam games in the future will have that kind of console/PC interactivity.

For my next question:

Will the PC retail bundle come with a disc or a code for DLing through Steam. Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer a hard copy over a digital copy.

That's the way Valve's first party titles have worked in the past, Foamy.

Wait, which way?

Both my Team Fortress and Portal retail boxes came with DL codes. I assume you mean Portal 2 will be the same and no disc for me?

Yes. I'm sorry, I didn't see the "disc or" part there.

I think the Orange Box *may* have come with a CD, but you still had to enter the code into Steam, it was basically just Steam + local content on disc, you still had to set up a Steam account for the game to authenticate against. And then, everything since then has been code only.

Prior to the Orange Box, you could do standalone installations of Valve products. I remember ***** about the Steam integration when the Orange Box came out, but, honestly, now I prefer Steam.

Ooh, I didn't know that, that's a really nice feature since i'll probably mostly play on my PC if it can run it fine, but will be nice not having to start over if I want to play on my PS3 for a bit.
