It already is. (And i'm not talking solely about politicians.)

I disagree with you that every single politician is a crook. In fact, I think you would be pretty hard pressed to prove that they are *all* crooks.

Certainly, many of them are corrupt, but not all of them. Some of them wind up being just as much a hero as any other hero in our history.

At last Ron Paul isn't a crook.

He may not be. And I agree with Monte that not every one of them is necessarily corrupt...but of course if they aren't corrupt, they are marginalized by those that are and unable to exert any control. Just like Ron Paul.

The system is broken, in its entirety. There's nothing worth salvaging.

Did he get acquitted?

I know, necro threading a little bit.

Better late then never!

From Gore Vidal
http://entertainment.blogs.foxnews.com/ ... latestnews

Quote:
In an interview with The Atlantic, the controversial 83-year-old author of such books as “Myra Breckinridge” and “1876” says of the director’s sex scandal, “I really don’t give a [expletive]. Look am I going to sit and weep every time a young hooker feels as though she’s being taken advantage of?”

The young woman to whom he is referring is Samantha Geimer, who was a 13-year-old aspiring model in 1977 when she was drugged and raped by Polanski.

Hummm, that would make me want to shoot him in the head the moment the words rolled out of his mouth.

I sincerely hope Gore Vidal meets the fate that he deserves.

I read the girls testimony during the trial. I am absolutely convinced that this was not a case of consensual sex. And I wish I could find the damn transcript now. She repeatedly told Polanski "no" during the encounter.

I remember reading this same thing somewhere too.

Even if she had given consent it wouldn't have mattered because she wsn't of legal age. (and regardless of how early one thinks legal age should be, that doesn't change what it was at the time and the line does have to be drawn somewhere. That somewhere will be partly arbitrary. That's not a problem.) Then there's the little detail of her being drugged as well, so even if she had been of legal age and wiling, he'd still be on the hook.

All of that is true. I wanted to point out the testimony because there was a weird tangent that read a lot like moral justification for what he did. It was a clear case of non-consensual sex, *regardless* of her age or the legal age of consent in the state. No means no.
