Nitefox, go buy LadyKate some cast iron skillets and a cast-iron dutch oven as well. Find lids for them too.

And a blender and a mixer! Beating stuff by hand is making my wrists hurt!

Err, heh.
I was referring to the home-made donut muffins I made the other day that took forEVER because I had to sift the dry ingredients by hand and beat the wet and dry ingredients together by hand, alternating them into a very stiff dough and it took a long time and it hurt! Would have been a lot easier on me if I had a sifter and an electric mixer.

As long as NF is taking pointers, a quality cast-iron dutch oven will cost you in the neighborhood of $100. I recommend giving LK a quality homemade dutch oven with a down comforter for FREE!

omg... yummmmm!

Shel married me for a reason, and only part of it was indoor plumbing!

Damn, is that a double entendre or did he literally tire of pooping in outhouses?

I will try the egg thing, but those eggs won't survive until breakfast.

Not a double entendre, Shel was living in a tent intending to travel with the Renaissance Faire when we started dating. Indoor plumbing (and a massive water heater) was a huge part of my strategy.

And you're not supposed to save the eggs until breakfast, you're supposed to have the steak and eggs together for breakfast! Incidentally, I use bacon grease for my steak and eggs, not butter. And I serve steak rare and the yolks runny.

I have one of these:

Bask in the glory :) Easily the best kitchen device I own.

I have this one:
Image

I looked at the KAs, and I love the colours, but I wanted the larger capacity and the extra power. The biggest KA is 6 quarts and 575 watts, the Cuisinart is 7 quarts, 1000 watts, and a deeper bowl that flings less flour. And since the old KAs made by Hobart with metal gears are hard to find (the company was sold to Whirlpool in '86) it was this or a Viking if I wanted a metal innards. Sadly the Kitchenaid company did what many have done: started producing 'entry level' products at lower price points and skimping quality all across their line, resting on name recognition.

Taamar, you are a goddess. Just so you know. Food and sex and brains and humor. If you ever leave Shel and I decide to become a lesbian and its cool with you, I'm totally moving in!

Poor Nitefox, tossed aside for a woman with good skills. Well, at least he is still the King.

Heck, I'd buy out a good grocery store if I thought it could get me in there.

I most probably have a stove-top cast iron grill/griddle.
