You did end up killing DFK's insane druid. (Admittedly, after he threatened to burn your ship.)

Perhaps Evil campaigns do a better job of ensuring that people have a common reason to stay together. I think its too easy for 'good aligned' groups to just assume that they have common cause without enough effort to maintain.

It isn't that the medium itself is bad. As has been pointed out, it allows people to play games they otherwise might not be able to get off the ground. I know play by post gaming is Taly's only means of participating in the hobby, and I don't imagine she's alone in that respect. There are a lot of people who either can't find a local group, or who's schedules don't permit them to join one. It's just a different medium, and has different hurdles that have to be overcome.

My friend has been using Rondak's Portal to play many play-by-post games. I used it myself for a little bit around 2002 or so. I've heard they've upgraded their stuff quite a bit.

Might be something else to look into?

This is very true for me too.

I really liked playing the OpenRPG campaign, but it was difficult starting at 11-12 at night. It pissed off my wife at home and on drill weekends it meant maybe 3 hours sleep before I had to get up to go back in on Sunday. It sure can't have been easy DMing at that hour almost every weekend for 3 years.

The PbP games do seem to have participation issues, and I think most of them can be traced to RL. One person, especially the DM, taking an unannounced break can really hurt the participation. Unfortunately when **** comes up in RL, we don't always remember to notify the PbP campaign.

I actually have some of the early chatlogs of Taly building her character to use to judge when the game started (November 2005 is the date I have). It was actually close to 5 years. We used to start closer to 10 CST, but Rane's participation pushed that back an hour.

Google Wave was rather promising, and I liked how things flowed. Unfortunately, Wave never really caught on. People didn't log in regularly, and that kind of hurt. Google is apparently offering up a version of Wave that can be run on a personal server, which could be interesting.

Sorry about that... starting at 8pm was just enough for me to get the kids in bed and settled.

Hey, since that game shares continuity with my pirate game, you'll see blake again!

And Ramelles?

Some of these characters and the pirates from the evil game may make brief cameos in my game, but I don't plan on having the same degree of linkage as the Nara --> Pirates does.

Indeed. Blake has already shown up in an earlier thread.

Hamish has been referenced once in a way that left his current state of health ...inconclusive. ;)

Diamondeye, one issue i've had putting Ramelles in my game is that he'd singlehandedly slaughter almost your entire crew of murderous, theiving pirates and bring the unlucky survivors to the gallows the next morning.

However, Good news, everyone! I've thought of a safe way of giving him a cameo in my campaign. Expect to see him soon!

I'm not sure whether to be terrified or thrilled about this.

Thrilled, of course! Because even though he was a stick in the mud, I still liked him better than the biter.

No, Blake called the dwarf a biter. It's a slang term he picked up from Sigil(since that is where Blake was born and raised). Derogatory term for short people(ankle biter, I would assume)

There were perks to traveling with a prostitute-priestess. She had friends who threw great parties, and she was always getting invited to whatever big fancy to-do was going on.
