So.. the Everquest adaption of D&D didn't work out too well, for a number of reasons, primarily being that I lost a lot of my motivation to push it along after losing an immense amount of houseruling work with the 3.0 board crash.

However, I'm thinking of starting up a new PBP since I do have a forum for it.

Like I pointed out, however, in Hellfire, time is going to be somewhat limited for me in the next few months, so I'm really aiming for an August or so start date, maybe mid-month.

I'm also not firm on too many details yet except that:
1) I'm looking at a 3.5 campaign possibly with the use of some Pathfinder rules
2) In the Forgotten Realms
3) Most likely in the South and Eastern parts of Faerun (i.e. Mulhorand, not Kara-Tur); possibly venturing up to the Sea of Fallen Stars/Moonsea at some point. The idea, however, would be to utilize some of those large areas around the Shaar that just don't seem to get a lot of attention, and avoid some of the more cliche'd areas of Faerun such as Waterdeep, Silverymoon, the Dalelands, Cormyr and the like that seem to appear in half the books and more than half the campaigns.
4) Some fairly extensive houseruling, but nothing like the complete rebuild of the class rules and spell lists involved in the EQ campaign; much more detail-oriented, mainly on addressing some of the problems, theoretical or otherwise in the rules

Other than it being in FR (since I don't do worldbuilding, don't like Krynn or Eberron for adventuring, and don't have material for any other world, nor the familiarity I have with FR), in the south, and being 3.5, however, I don't have a lot of truely concrete ideas, however, so I'm looking for input over the next few months.

By input, I mean:
1) What would you like to see in a campaign in that area? Dungeons? Wilderness campaign? Social/political? Stealth-oriented?
2) What level should we start at? I'm thinking about 4th, definitely do not want to start at 1st, but would be willing to start at 6-7th depending on consensus.
3) What suggestions for houserules do you have?
4) Does anyone have a homebrewed PrC or base class they'd like to play?

I'm pretty open to ideas here, as long as they aren't ridiculous; "win buttons" or clearly overpowered.

I also plan on making a few adjustments to the lore of FR, but I'm not sure it will really even matter since I'm going to be staying away from a lot of the traditional plot mainstays of the setting.

Anyhow, there is plenty of time; I'm looking at starting about 4 months down the road or so when I expect at least some of the insanity I'm embarking on will have cleared up. Please take your time and give me some ideas. Don't be afraid to be quite detailed, especially if you want to brew up your own class; even if I don't take it as-is we can most likely work something out.

If you're inexperienced and want to play, please let me know too. It might be hard to whip up your own homebrews, but don't be afraid to ask questions about how it's being done.

If you're not planning on playing, please feel free to submit ideas you think would be helpful too, if you're so inclined, in the houserules and homebrewing realms.. clearly I'm not going to worry too much about what people would like to see in a campaign they aren't going to play in. ;)

I'm going to put an ideas/questions thread in my forum; please reply to this one only to express interest.

Basic, 3.5 Druid. I have always wanted to try one, and the only time I did, Shuyung's aquatic game got shut down early.

I honestly like the idea of starting at 4th level. Hell starting at 1st is good, but you eliminated that already

4th is fine by me. High enough level to have some direction already, but low enough that you've got most of your advancement still ahead of you.

4th is high enough for a wizard to survive and perhaps be a little bit useful.

I'd be interested, but I can't build a character until I see other people's characters. I want to cause as few waves as possible.

You've got tons of time. If you'd like, make up several characters and pick one you think fits in.

Don't worry too much about making waves, either. I'm looking for a lot of player input into the basic course of the campaign. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about some of this hoidy toidy 'player agency' complicated-ass GNS theory crap that gets tossed around by fake social scientists on some gaming forum. What I'm looking for is campaign ideas and consensus about what people really would enjoy doing.

I do plan on doing at least one very significant dungeon at some point, but beyond that my plans mainly revolve around exploring an area of Faerun that doesn't get as much attention.

So, take your time. If you're not prepared to make up a character right now (and there's nothing wrong with making up 4 or 5 and having them ready) then any input you have on house rules or the direction or emphasis of a campaign "plot" (I use the term loosely here) please, feel free. There's a thread for discussion in my forum, an I'd appreciate any ideas. Not everything has to be addressed to me either; if anyone interested in playing wants to toss ideas around there and bounce them off each other, go for it.

Right now my only priority is to nail down people who are about 80% sure they'll be interested come mid-august or so, and nail down a starting level. I'm not limiting discussion to that, but those are the main things I'm looking for from everyone, in addition to their inspirations.

I like any game set in the Forgotten Realms to really feel integrated with the realms. It's not like I want to be hanging out with Drizzt (in fact, it's probably better if we don't see him), but it needs to be apparent that this is the same world, with some of the same famous people. So, for instance, if, as a druid, I someday visit a druid circle in which a green-bearded dwarf identifies himself as a "doo-dad", I'm okay with that. ;)

There is incredible depth in this setting, as well, for any type of campaign someone might want to play. Want a planar/religious theme? THe gods are layed out in detail, and there are Prestige Classes and Substitution Levels to specifically tailor your character to the god you worship. Prefer to tie it in to the history? There are more than 10,000 years of detailed historical background to base something on. Which is what i've done with the metaplot in my game - Faerun used to be ruled by Genies...Djinns, Efreeti, Dao and Marids...i figured an elemental themed game based out of Calimport was less used than Demons, Devils and Dragons out of Silverymoon, so I highly approve of you picking a different area for your setting, DE. Pick some interesting detail out of the setting that nobody ever focuses on, and build a whole campaign out of it.

(While I'm not suggesting this, I'm also not opposed to shared continuity with other games in the same setting, either, as you notice from the evil campaign...Rorinthas, Diamondeye, Ranelagh, Raltar, Khross, Corolinth, and myself can all easily recognize continuity between that game and another we played in. While not necessary, it gives the illusion of carrying on a story where other things we've done still make a difference.)

More to the point, people grow shamelessly attached to their high level characters as a general rule. Although I am flattered that people liked their characters so well.

Sword Coast is really used a lot, but I can't help but say that it is still my favorite area. Neverwinter and Baldur's Gate in particular. Even Amn(Strange that all three places are featured in Bioware games...or maybe not so odd). Going eastward would probably be fresh, though.

Definitely going to be farther east and south than Amn/Baldur's Gate. Think Lake of Steam, Shining Sea, Shaar, Eastern Shaar and the nations and cities around them.

I might want to use these in some form:
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost ... stcount=11

(Technically homebrew, but the homebrewer is Rich Burlew, who in addition to writing Order of the Stick is actually a published WotC game book writer for D&D 3.5...)
