Exploration Experience gets pretty significant. There are quests and quest chains you can do without killing anything or anyone. And once you hit 60, you can do cooking and fishing dailies.

This. This is why I picked up the game a second time after quitting during AQ Gate farming.

Yet another fun night in WoW for me. My guild got hard mode XT down for the first time after probably... 7 or so wipes. We cleared out Kologarn and Auriaya for good measure, probably going to hit up Hodir's or Council's hard modes on Monday.

After that, about half of us stayed online and decided to get "For the Horde!" and absolutely destroyed all the alliance leaders. One of us had an alt on in the alliance side and it was great listening to them ***** about how much "horde guilds suck" and "blah blah server population."

Man, Blacksmithing requires a stupid amount of materials to level. I'm powering my DK thru before I start to level him in Outland so I'm not missing out on all the Fel Iron and such. But holy crap, you need a boatload of Thorium and Mithril. I just hit the Thorium level last night and have spent abot 400g with a mix of AHing mats and farming. Of course, I've yet to DE and sell all the dusts and **** from all the gear I made, which will at least help out in recouping costs.

And this is after they fixed it! You should've seen it in vanilla WoW. It was the worst. I never leveled my blacksmithing after 60, I couldn't stand to see it anymore. Freaking horrible tradeskill, and back at that point, I would grind FOREVER to make a sweet piece of armor, then strip it off as soon as something dropped in MC. Good stuff!

It took me 1kg to get through the Thorium levels, but since then I've made about 3kg off of selling Cobalt/Tempered Saronite gear that I made while leveling.

I sat at 260 for a long time before just gritting my teeth, and I'm really glad I did.

Now I make sure I have a full set of Tempered Saronite in the AH at all times, and the best selling weapons (Honed Cleaver) and cobalt armor. Mats for Tempered Saronite cost me about 10-20g per item, and they sell from 50-100g per.

The cash is great- my alt has made enough cash to buy himself some BoE epics, Dual Spec, and CW flying at 71.

When you say that you spend 1kg to get through Thorium, do you mean you just bought all the mats off the AH to get up to the Fel Iron levels?

Yeah. My main's a miner, but it worked out better to spend the money than the time for me.

Thorium is a pita to mine! I mined all the Fel Iron I needed, and now am back to buying Cobalt/Saronite- it's amazing how little people will take for the time it takes to gather it!

I still keep my main to smelt, as ore is way cheaper than bars most of the time.

My Paladin is now at level 35 and rising quickly. I have one of those leveling guides I'm following to get an idea of the best places to see at each level, so I'm covered there.

Any tips on items to get or tradeskills/professions to work on? I have a few level 80 friends but this is my highest level char in WoW =p I could probably convince them to run me through a dungeon or two if there are some particularly good ones for Paly stuff.

What spec?

If you're going retribution, blacksmithing and mining are a solid choice. If you want to be poor forever, you can go blacksmithing and jewelcrafting, which eeks out a little more bang for a whole lot of bucks.

Production tradeskills are worthless until you're max level. Pick up two gathering skills, and make tons of money selling the stuff on the auction house as you level up.

For ease of use, go with skinning and either mining or herbalism. For best money, get both mining and herbalism, though you have to remember to switch your tracking frequently. I think there's an addon or two out there that will automate that for you though, or you could make a macro and tie it to one of your abilities that you use frequently.

When you hit max level, drop one (or both) of the gathering skills, and get some production ones. I'm not sure what's best for pallies, though monty plays one, so his ideas are probably good.

I found Inscription and BS to be great moneymakers, but they require some start up cash. Inscription much less so than BS.

My pally is Mining/Enchanting- it's not the largest min/max combo, but I really enjoy being able to DE stuff, makes my life much easier, and I get lots of Abyss Crystals.

I've used Mining / Enchanting on my Warlock up until now and its a pretty sweet combo for bonuses and money making. Before I started to pay for leveling up my DK I had just under 22k in gold, and thats with buying a whole tonne of vanity **** like rare pets and mounts. I also have a bank full of Saronite, Eternals and Uncommon / Rare gems that I could sell for more gold but am saving for the DK now.

I am dropping Mining in favour of Tailoring now for the added bonuses as I'll use my Death Knight for Mining stuff if needed. But if you want money, Mining is the way to go.

I want to drop my mining for either JC or Engineering.

But at the moment, even though I'm not actually mining, I use it for smelting ore down for my BS.

It really isn't worth mining Saronite and Cobalt as cheap as they're selling right now. Much faster to buy 200 off AH, make a bunch of tempered Saronite stuff and triple my money.

::edit:: Also server dependent. On mine, the competition for Titanium Veins is huge, and Saronite Ore sells for 8-10g/stack- less then you can vendor it for. Apparently not a lot of people check vendor prices.

Thanks all. Monte I've been going Retribution since I am still leveling and do it solo questing for the most part. I'm looking for fast efficient killing of trash mobs.

I picked up mining and blacksmithing... mainly because I always do those two for tank classes in MMO's. I just made a cool blue con BP for my guy actually. I think the dual gathering skill idea is a good one though. I could use the money and then just buy new gear.

Mentioning inscriptions and enchanting brings up another point... if you all were leveling a new Paladin from scratch, no twinking, what stuff would you get to make leveling up more efficient? Meaning all I'm doing is choosing the best weapon and gear I come across or can afford on the AH. I buy my new skills, put points in my talents and that's about it. I hope there is no other alternate advancement I am completely oblivious to! I know I was very surprised to learn I can get a mount at 20, I'm assuming that's fairly new?

I dont enchant, inscribe, or do anything else. In fact I dont even know what those things are heh. Anything worthwhile to do for my character? If it only makes a minimal difference I dont bother. I change gear so often it's not worth it to take the time to fine tune stuff, but if there is something easy and obvious I might not be aware of gimme a heads up!

At 15, you can start using glyphs. I don't recall the exact pattern, but they help.

Personally, I'd get Glyph of Seal of Command, it will give you back 8% mana when you judge. After you get Divine Storm, get the glyph for it, too- more healing is a good thing!

For a minor glyph, pick up the one for Blessing of Might, less time having to remember to buff is just plain nice.

I wouldn't worry about enchants until you hit 80, personally- maybe get some +stamina armor kits when you pass 60, but nothing major.

What server are you on? If it happens to be Terenas (Alliance side) I have an enchanter and inscriptor, and I'll hook ya up.

Similarly, if you don't have friends on your current server and want to swap, I'm leveling a slew of alts at the moment.

If you decide to remain retribution when you hit 80, you will want to change those glyphs out, though, probably to Seal of Vengeance, Exorcism, and Judgment. Seal of Command will be nicer once the new patch comes out (starts working like a cleave), but if you spec 5 points into the seal increaser holy talent, Seal of the Righteous currently out performs it, even if it is less fun to watch.

/agree.

Those are great leveling seals, but they are certainly not top DPS seals.

Thanks guys appreciated. I just got a new weapon and a friend gave me 200 gold so I'm in good shape at 35.

I will look into Glyphs!

Oh I'm on Lothar server. I do have a few friends here but they're all 80 many times over whereas 35 is the highest i've ever gotten in this game.

If you have the 200g startup, I would really highly recommend herbalism/inscription. The shoulder enchants are amazing and flexible, and they negate having to do the Sons of Hodir faction grind at 80.

Glyphs also sell really well from the start, if you do your research- once you start getting minor glyphs, they sell amazingly and consistently. I had made over 1k gold by 50 with my alt warrior, and that was buying herbs not herbing myself.

Inscription was by far the most useful and financially lucrative profession I've done, by far.

I must have done it wrong, because inscription cost me a *ton* to level up.

Depends how fast you try to level it. I stayed at 75 when you get minor inscription research until I got a few glyphs that sold well. I also started buying Ink of the Sea instead of the overpriced lower herbs and exchanging them in Dal early- this is especially useful for Lions Ink up through Ethereal.

But if you get lucky fast with a minor glyph, they'll sell for 20g profit each (if you play the market), and have little to no deposit.

Also, make sure you list at 12 hour intervals- it helps to beat out undercutting.

Also, if you notice a lot of competition on one glyph, just move on to one that has less competition.

Know the price conversions for Herbs->Inks, and make sure you only buy them when they're at a low price. It means you can't get them on demand, but there are cheap herbs up at some point in every week.

I have a maxed herber, but on my server it just isn't worth it to farm the herbs, except for a few points leveling, I could always sell the final glyph for more than the material cost.

All good advice. Mostly, I just wanted someone that could churn out a Greatness card for my main. :P Good lord that cost a ton.

Yeah. I've made several for other people (for decent tips), but never felt it worth the pain to make one for myself :-D

So, while we're on the topic of alts:

I'm leveling my druid/rogue/shaman alts. Rogue is 22, Druid 26, Shaman 42. I have mail/leather BoA shoulders, PvP BoA sword/dagger and PvE BoA Sword/Bow. My next purchase in a few days will be the leather chest.

Anything I should know about leveling the critters? Rogue is currently combat (although I have been toying with the idea of going subtlety), Druid is Feral, Shaman Enh. I will probably switch to Boomkin/Elemental once I hit Outlands, as I've never played around with casters all that much.
