I'm gonna vote down amendments to insert constitutionally protected monopolies and increased regulatory agricultural bureaucracy today; what are you gonna vote on?

I didn't vote for anybody I didn't know, or who was running unopposed.

I voted for the replacement park levy because, while I disagree with property taxes, I use the county park services and felt I should support them.

I voted no on anything else, as it was all either more taxes, more bureaucracy, or alterations of my stateconstitution (or some amalgamation of the above).

I voted yes on the bond issue for veterans (since it was to be funded by bonds and has a set expiration date; I would have voted no if it were a tax), no on the cattle board or whatever the **** issue 2 was supposed to be, no on the casino thing since it's a constitutional ammendment, yes on taxes for the county sheriff, prosecutor, and jail since they have already made serious cuts, yes on the city safety services tax for the same reason, no on the renewal "emergency" levies for the schools.

I also voted for all Republicans for city council and a man I know through my dad for city judge.

My wife usually wants me to tell her how to vote, but this time she got confused on issue 2 and voted for it instead of against it.

Let's see. I voted against Christie and Corzine just because I couldn't justify either. I voted Republicans at the local level just because Democrats have screwed things up so badly in my area. I voted against a ballot issue that would borrow even more money (NJ is one of the biggest debtors in the country already) to preserve environmental areas and historical sites. I really won't feel great tonight either way, but I truly hope there's a pushback against socialism at least.

I voted Christie. Corzine is awful and had his chance. He's a known quantity and it's bad. I voted against that environmental ballot as well glad you mentioned that.

Christie for the win in NJ. I'm amazed actually. Corzine outspent him 3 to 1 and had Obama and Biden visit what 5 times or something? Obama won this state EASY, it is deep blue. Now Christie better come through.

Tried to vote, but they wouldn't let me because my license had an old address. I didn't have time to get back there because of school. Oh well.

He won't. This coming from a man when I saw him in a speech to the NJ YR's and he couldn't even use the words "conservative" or "tax cuts". He just ran on a generic Republican platform and was lucky Corzine was as unpopular as he was. I don't expect anything from Christie unfortunately, except more of what Corzine would have done, save for helping the Democratic special interest groups.

Obama/Biden are incredibly popular in NJ still. It's not why Corzine lost, in my opinion. He lost because property taxes as well as other taxes are outrageously out of control, he wanted to keep raising the NJ highway tolls, debt kept increasing, and he was tarnished by corruption. I don't think he was helped by Obama or Biden, though, as he was already too unpopular. That being said, my previous post is why I'm not too sanguine still.

That said, this was about property taxes and the economy in general. Obama had no mojo at all.

I think Christie will do better than Corzine even if only marginally. He has seen first hand what will happen if he doesnt come through so if he has any aspirations of a second term or continued public service he needs to do something. In any case this is addition by subtraction. I would be throwing up my hands in exasperation had Corzine won a second term so I voted for Christie enthusiastically.

Hope you're right Dash. But I think Christie's term will look a heck of a lot like a Corzine second term, especially with Republicans picking up virtually no seats in the Assembly. Democrats still have control over the issues as they can pick and choose what legislation they send to Christie. Losing Assembly seats, especially more conservative seats, that should have been picked up with as strong a Christie win as we had is incredibly disappointing.

All very true but to me the top priority was punishing Corzine and at least that was accomplished. Unfortunately this state is very deep blue and doubly so in Essex county where I am (among other areas).

I could get into a whole rant on how the people who tend to vote monolithically Democrat here end up screwing themselves but it is what it is. If it does continue on this path more people will leave. Eventually I may have to as well but we're not quite there yet.

Maine turned out to be a breath of fresh air, too.

Well, to be fair, Corzine never had much of a chance. He was at something like 30% popularity before the election. I'm surprised he did as well as he managed to do. Frankly, both candidates sucked.

And.... they passed all 3 freaking Constitutional amendments or whatever in Ohio, raised taxes in my hometown, and replaced the crap mayor in Dayton with a newcomer.

One out of 3 isn't a fun number.

Majority vote took away the right for gays to marry. I feel terrible for the gay couples there who are now second class citizens, and I feel a great deal of pity for those people who voted with their hate.

Why do you feel terrible? Do you not advocate and wish to live in a democratic society?

That is democracy.


Instead of feeling terrible, you should be happy that the people of the state of Maine were given the opportunity to guide their government with their own voice, rather than have policies dictated to them.


The only alternative is to ignore those votes with which you disagree. Is that what you're advocating?
