I've accepted a new role, though the transition hasnt taken place, and the formal announcement hasnt gone out. But its very nervewracking, as well as exciting, in a way. I'm going from running a team of folks, and a big $ budget, to being a sole contributor on a technical/design basis again.

Im really hoping its going to make me happier, but Im kinda scared about how out of touch I may be.

Hard work ahead I guess. Eep! Wish me luck ;-p

Someone said to me... 'congratulations. you've reached the point in your career where we have to make jobs up for you, and you can't just go to monster.com'

I hope that's a good thing ;)

I made a very similar move a year or so ago and don't regret it at all. My stress levels went down, and my overall quality of life went through the roof!

Firmwide 'Architect' for our security group. Starting with access management - authentication, entitlements, etc.

Basically being the man bringing together the plan from a smallish number of key people, for a few thousand people, to service a company of a few hundred thousand. If it goes well.

If not... I guess, washing windows?

Ugh. That job spec frightens me.

Commoditise security by centralising it in ops teams that dont know your product or environment.

Then make it really complex so you need clever talented people, with lots of experience.

Then make it a mind numbingly dull repetitive job, requiring repeated, flawless execution, where 360 days in every 365 nothing will actually happen, but you'll have endless false positives to weed through.

Then be surprised when your X million $ spend doesn't stop the actual attacks.

Maybe Im reading too much between the lines.
