To go along with that picture Lenas posted:

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/03/world ... wanted=all

Quote:
“The code name for Bin Laden was ‘Geronimo.’ The president and his advisers watched Leon E. Panetta, the C.I.A. director, on a video screen, narrating from his agency’s headquarters across the Potomac River what was happening in far-away Pakistan.

“‘They’ve reached the target,’ he said.

“Minutes passed.

“‘We have a visual on Geronimo,’ he said.

“A few minutes later: ‘Geronimo EKIA.’

“Enemy Killed In Action. There was silence in the Situation Room.

“Finally, the president spoke up.

“‘We got him.’”

If there was someone hiding out in an old CIA safehouse that had killed thousands of innocent Pakistanis in horrific fashion at their workplace, cant say as I'd blame them. Assuming we had refused to help of course.

Somehow, that picture makes it seem a little more real for me.

So, anyone wanna place bets on how soon this will be made into a movie? Fairly soon, I'm sure.

On a related note, I see that Obama doesn't care about Native Americans since he allowed the name Geronimo to be used. I hope the united tribes files suit. So the USA killed Geronimo twice.
/sarcasm btw

I have received independent confirmation via Twitter that the body has been found:

Except, that's not a positive assertion ...

You see, you are buying into the same false dilemma thinking TheRiov keeps using. Stating that the events claimed by our government did not happen does not mean Bin Laden must be alive. As there are any number of possible options involving our government and Bin Laden and the status of his life or death, pronouncing that things did not happen as our President claimed is simply disputing the veracity of his press conference ...

Again, even if we assume the President forthright and honest, destroying the primary evidence is stupid ...

A) You can no longer independently verify their DNA matching.

B) You cannot verify the source of the DNA evidence.

C) You cannot verify the body itself.

Destroying the body before conclusively proving it was or was not Osama Bin Laden was the worst possible course of action. And, if he happens to be alive instead of dead, it reaches new levels of stupidity ...

No, it's prefect. Obama can not lose politically. If the admin is theoretically lying, they've created a win win situation. If he was already dead, they snatched up the credit for Obama's term in office. A person in AQ that might know Osama died some other time isn't going to risk outing themselves to say otherwise. If he's not dead, Osama would be risking capture by coming forward and if he did come forward, the admin can just say it was a ruse to get him to denounce his own death. If they're lying and destroyed the evidence, or are just saying they are, it's **** brilliant.

If they got him and then buried his body at sea for some reason they are **** retarded.

 because you know more about international politics than the teams of advisors who went into this decision.

You and Khross are screaming about how you dont have evidence and how terrible it is that there is none.

Other than satisfying your cureosity, what is the material benefit of having a body? You'd get 'confirmation' but I'm still waiting to hear what you think the nation would ACTUALLY get out of it.

We've suggested several reasons why you might NOT want one.

I guess people just need to put their hand in his side and feel the nail bullet marks in his head.

Might have somethign to do with the fact that the first requires only a faith in the rather exacting sciences of physics, ballistics, biology etc . The second requires a complete suspension of belief in physics, biology, etc.

So how will you explain when the next tape is released? Because we know its going to be. How about in a month? A year? When do we remember.the value of seeing is believing ? Why not have undeniable proof of his deathto counter their propaganda?

That's because one of those scenarios is plausable, and the other is not.

An interesting perspective on Bin Laden's goals and the war on terror. More in the link.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/ ... story.html

Quote:
Osama bin Laden didn’t win, but he was ‘enormously successful’
By Ezra Klein, Published: May 2

Did Osama bin Laden win? No. Did he succeed? Well, America is still standing, and he isn’t. So why, when I called Daveed Gartenstein-Ross, a counterterrorism expert who specializes in al-Qaeda, did he tell me that “bin Laden has been enormously successful”? There’s no caliphate. There’s no sweeping sharia law. Didn’t we win this one in a clean knockout?

Apparently not. Bin Laden, according to Gartenstein-Ross, had a strategy that we never bothered to understand, and thus that we never bothered to defend against. What he really wanted to do — and, more to the point, what he thought he could do — was bankrupt the United States of America. After all, he’d done the bankrupt-a-superpower thing before. And though it didn’t quite work out this time, it worked a lot better than most of us, in this exultant moment, are willing to admit.

Bin Laden’s transition from scion of a wealthy family to terrorist mastermind came in the 1980s, when the Soviet Union was trying to conquer Afghanistan. Bin Laden was part of the resistance, and the resistance was successful — not only in repelling the Soviet invasion, but in contributing to the Communist super-state’s collapse a few years later. “We, alongside the mujaheddin, bled Russia for 10 years, until it went bankrupt,” he later explained.

The campaign taught bin Laden a lot. For one thing, superpowers fall because their economies crumble, not because they’re beaten on the battlefield. For another, superpowers are so allergic to losing that they’ll bankrupt themselves trying to conquer a mass of rocks and sand. This was bin Laden’s plan for the United States, too.

Photo is going to be released.

WHITE HOUSE TO RELEASE BIN LADEN DEATH PHOTO
Tue May 03 2011 10:22:50 ET
President Obama decided Tuesday morning to release at least one photo showing Osama Bin Laden's death, a top source claims.

The images, being described as 'graphic', are bound to stir emotions in the east and the west, and will likely become the most viewed photographs in modern history.

One image shows a bullet wound to his head above his left eye.

Will it remove all doubt about the death?

The exact timing on the release is being debated.

Developing...

The same way TuPac released albums after his death. Just adds to my statement that this administration is purposely trying to feed the nuts. I think its to give the media sensational news to report rather than the economy, broken promises, or how in hindsight that Bush was right.

Just a thought:

Assuming bin Laden is truly dead:

Why should the U.S. Gov't care one way or another whether or not it's citizens really believe that he is dead? If he is indeed dead, then the damage is done regardless of the populous' belief.

In other words, other than the rise in approval likely, what other benefit does the government have from ensuring that most of the U.S.A believes that bin Laden is dead.

There are always going to be nay-sayers regardless of what evidence is brought forth, so I ask, why even bother. If he is dead, then the mission is accomplished no matter who believes it.

I don't believe its the US that needs convincing unless this is only a political kill. I think its value is its illustration of what we will do to our enemies. And to that end, no trophy, no deterrent.

Careful Foamy,

Junior took a beating for claiming 'Mission Accomplished'.

Obama put a priority (right or wrong) on pursuing OBL. Despite the rhetoric we are hearing, OBL being dead will have little or no positive effect on the war on terror, and will almost certainly incite more violence by his followers.

Depending on what scope you use to define your mission, it's far from 'accomplished', and may have actually regressed (still TBD).

So, I'm wondering if anybody in Washington has had their opinion altered on whether waterboarding is torture, or whether torture is effective.

Yeah, I cringed when I heard the initial lead came from waterboarding. To some, that will be a validation of the policy, and that is unacceptable. I'd rather OBL be free.
