Men are nuts.

You put yourself at a distance, say nothing of consequence, then act all surprised when I don't read your damn mind. Enough already.

I will not cajole, entreat, or ask repeated questions to get a basic description out of you. Neither will I feel responsible for what you feel or your interactions. This 'caregiver' is no longer on duty. It is not even worth my energy to get angry or feel hurt.

If you don't want this pain anymore, learn to communicate. But not on my time. No more.

(Don't hate men, and women can be nuts too, but not usually this style of nuts.)

Oh women do this exact kind of nuts too. My ex-wife for example.

Mostly my son's father and my son over a long period of time. There is a sprinkling of a few other men in the mix.

Peanuts, I'd guess.

Damn, not speaking that aloud (and fast) kinda kills that joke, doesn't it?

That works both ways more often than I think you realize Squirrel Girl.

I prefer talking things out when problems arise. My past partners have either preferred to do all the talking, or have chosen to not talk at all. Neither is workable.

True. I seem to get the 'not talk at all' variety.

OMG tell me about it!!! I cannot STAND the whole "disappearing into his man cave" thing, they won't tell you WHY they are in there brooding, refuse to answer questions or talk and basically ignore you while they are "in their stupid cave" and after a few days they come out and refuse to talk about why they were in there and look at you like you're retarded for even asking! UGH! Men!

That's one of the primary differences. If you leave us alone for awhile, we get better.

I'll give you a little insight into this.

Most of the time this is because the last thing we want at that particular time is interaction with anyone. Including our loving spouses/girlfriends. Usually it means that we need time to decompress, and do our best to either forget about or get our head wrapped around whatever put us into that state. Often times we don't want to talk about it because we either don't want to talk to anyone about it, or it's something that we don't want to inflict on our spouses/girlfriends.

Often times it's not even anything earth shattering or amazingly bad. It might just have been a really bad day at work. But whatever it was has put us into a state where basically we aren't fit company, and if pushed will likely say or do something that we'll regret, so we retreat back into our cave to sort it out, unwind and become fit company again.

Talking about "my" stuff doesn't fix stuff (for me), talking about "us" stuff fixes stuff but not when it is "my" stuff. It just drags it out and ends up with a whole bunch of advice I have no intention of following ;) Of course I am stubborn and Irish (see what Freud had to say about us).

Yeah, I get that guys need to compartmentalize their crap and need head space in which to do it, but the trouble is that women by nature need to "talk about it" and oftentimes your going into your man cave triggers our need to "talk about it" thereby creating a problem in and of itself.

You are missing the important point here. If it is something private that you all need to process, that is fine. Go into your cave, and return when you are ready. However, if it is something that you expect me to know about and deal with, start talking! I am NOT a telepath.

This is a quote from the worst offender, "If you don't understand my silences, how can you understand when I speak." WTF!

Heh, that's funny SG. Usually it's me saying that to my wife. Her whole family is of the "if I ignore it long enough it will go away" school of issue management.

That quote is priceless.
