Nobel Peace Prize laureate Barack Obama ordered Cheney's assassination squad to murder Osama bin Laden in cold blood, based on intelligence gathered through a combination of illegal torture of unlawfully detained civilians and warrantless wiretapping of private communications.

Anything I left out? Why are the Democrats celebrating? Doesn't this make Obama a war criminal, just like Bush? What am I missing here?

(Don't get me wrong. I'm as pleased as anyone that Osama has assumed room temperature. I just want to make sure that I don't say the wrong thing if Joe Biden or Nancy Pelosi shows up on TV wearing an "I ♥ Waterboarding" t-shirt.)

Doesn't this qualify as a political assassination and I thought we signed the paper saying we wouldnt do that.

Apparently it's a grey area and on the traffic lights in DC grey means: "GO!"

Couple of clips of Colbert at this site: http://dailycaller.com/2011/05/03/team- ... anup-crew/

One is him making fun of Dick Cheneys super sekrit death squads going into other countries without so much as a by your leave and killing people! The second is him rejoicing over God King Obama's heroic action figure plan (with kung fu grip) to go in to other countries ... uhh... without permission and err... well yeah.

Osama was reaching for his dialysis machine. He was then posthumously charged with disorderly conduct and read his rights before they Jimmy Hoffa-ed him.

Anyone remember the 3 SEALS who are being court martialed for punching. Al-zawari?

Per an interview with Obama's head of intelligence, none of the information used in getting to Osama was obtained through "enhanced interrogation techniques".

I hope that is true, but even so, with the state of Guantanamo, this raid, the surge in Afghanistan, the increased drone attacks, etc - there's not much difference between Cheney and Obama.

Hi. You must be new; if you are a democrat and the republicans do it, shame on you. But if your guys do it then it is okay. We will make excuses to make it okay too.

And if you are a republican, you do the same thing to democrats.

Slightly different, in this case. Republicans complaining about Obama's "war crimes" are merely showing the hypocrisy of Democrats complaining about Bush, but ignoring it on Obama.

Where you see the same thing, is when Republicans complain about Obama being a socialist, yet supported Bush through his (then record-breaking) spending increases.

That directly contradicts their previous assertion that the intelligence committee did not know that these techniques were being used.

Ah, see. There's the cover up. It's actually a series of typos. The media reported Obama got Osama. It's actually Osama that got Obama!

Sounds about right. But right after 9/11, I remember telling someone at work that if OBL had arranged this (this was before his involvement had been confirmed), there was a special forces team in his future.

And you know, I didn't generally prefer Bush as president, but if this had gone down on his watch, I'd have been ok with it. I'm not celebrating the death, but I'm certainly glad OBL's gone.

I much prefer that it was a precision, well executed operation, rather than a chaotic one where we prevailed. It indicates a higher level of capability.

So it really was an execution.

Still okay with it.

At least it wasn't Gears of War. I'd hate to think about the uproar in the Muslim community if it came out that we curbstomped Bin Laden.

It could be worse. Could take lessons from Gears 3, and ripped off his arm in order to beat him to death.

Not sure I'd characterize it like that necessarily.

If the most wanted terrorist in the world dove for a gun, I'd shoot his *** too.

The Seals obviously didn't see the propaganda picture of him shooting an AK-47. He had it left-handed, and looked terribly uncomfortable. Doubt he could have done much with it even if he did get to it.

That's a joke, BTW. If he really was going for a gun, sure, take him down. But I have a strong feeling it was still an execution. It's a rare leader of that ilk who is both charismatic and personally brave.

It's unsettling, but I guess I should just go along with it. Not that there were very many good options for taking him alive. But I wish we could just 'fess up and say, "Hey, you know what, we killed him in cold blood, no apologies." But, that's not the nature of (lying!) government.

In this case, better to take him down execution style and deal with the repurcussions, than take him alive and deal with the trial/publicity. Which actually makes khross's suspicion that they really did take him alive seem more likely --because if they did take him alive, they'd be far better off letting the world think they'd shot him. Then you start a rumor that the shooting was an execution rather than a combat action, to deflect attention from the people wondering if they'd killed him at all. This would actually be brilliant if they could pull it off. I'd highly approve of it.

Question: we started a war specifically to get the perpetrator of the 9/11 crimes. Bin Laden was the perpetrator of those crimes, and that war is still going on. I don't understand this talk of "He was assassinated!!! Is that right?" Isn't death in the course of a war classified differently?
