Discovery had a documentary on sesame street several years ago. You can likely find it on Youtube, as I do know that the Married With Children documentary is there.

It was a very good documentary. One of my favorite parts is when Kevin Clash was talking about his experiences with Elmo. Kevin is the voice of Elmo and he is a (I don't remember the exact size) 6'4" black man. He talked about how most people are taken aback hearing Elmo's voice come out of him.

He was asked how his (then) young daughter (of maybe five or six years of age) thought about him doing the voice of Elmo. He stated that she doesn't quite get that he is Elmo... but she understands he has a close relationship with Elmo. He recalled a time when he was travelling and was fast asleep in the middle of night and his daughter called and woke him up at his hotel (time zone differences) and she said "Ummm... dad? Can you put Elmo on the phone?" and Kevin, fighting the fuzziness of just waking up, started talking to his daughter as Elmo. And she said, "Elmo? Don't tell my dad, but I did something bad." I think she broke a vase or something. So here is Kevin, trying to fight off sleepiness, speaking in Elmo's voice, and now having to console his daughter as Elmo instead of getting upset as her dad. It was quite amusing.

This is an awesome story.

I will always be an Ernie guy though.

Bert rules.

Cool story about Elmo. I have to see this documentary, just to see the guy do the voice.

I'll see if I can find it. Carol Spinney (voice of oscar and big bird) talks about how as he ages it's getting more and more difficult to perform as Big Bird. But he said "I will keep doing it until I physically can't hold that bird's head up anymore." And he was 70 years old during that interview. Awesome guy.

Can't find the documentary, but I think it was on A&E. They may rerun it. I would look it up on your tv.

But I did find a video of Kevin Clash doing Elmo.

Kermit was always my favorite as a kid.

Hi ho, this is Kermit the Frog here!

He's not on anymore. I heard the dude that did his voice died some time ago.

Please tell me you're kidding. You know who voiced Kermit, right?

For the record, that 'dude' was Jim Henson. Perhaps you've heard of him. :P
They still have kermit on Sesame Street being voiced by replacement Steve Whitmire.
