You have brought up a good point though....since we moved here, the amount of open swearing has increased dramatically. In fact, I don't think I've seen a single euphimism (sp?) yet...everyone( well, not everyone but enough to make it noticeable) is dropping the f bomb left and right and several others as well.
I was under the impression that substitutes were used on the old board out of respect for others but maybe it was just because of where it was hosted?

Maybe because this board doesn't have the language filter changing swear words into euphemisms? :D

Hahahaha really? And here I thought there was no language filter on the old board, it was just people being nice. Hahaha!
Guess I'm a lil more naive than I thought.

I added a few words to the language filter. If there are any other words you need/want added, send me a politely worded PM to that effect.

If you do not want to have the language filter on, you can turn it off from the User Control Panel.

For the longest time I thought that too. Then one day I saw the option while trying to change something else.

I'll leave it on. My imagination is probably much more inventive about how they are cussing each other out than what they are actually doing. I'd rather delude myself into thinking my online friends have a certain panache' rather than realize how simple and basic they are at obscenity, profanity and vulgarity.

Though when I think about it, Oonagh has posted the f-vulgarity more in one post than most of you do in a year or more. Expressing frustration admittedly, it did demonstrate her level of steam build-up.

Heh. Didn't realize the language filter was enabled by default, here. Went to the control panel to turn it off and the first option that caught my eye was "My Language". I spent about 2 seconds thinking "WTF about my language?" and then moved on to the correct section.

FWIW - I really enjoyed the days of having the language filter change cusswords to things like "gorram" and "ruttin". Looks a whole lot better than "****", IMO.

Hahahaha! I totally thought (up until today!) that you all had some sort of ranger/glade private lingo and all chose to say things like "gorram" and "ruttin" on purpose. I never knew it was a filter that did that. Hahahha, sheesh, I am having a good laugh at myself today! :D

That requires creativity and effort. If you wish to submit a mapping of more interesting conversions, feel free to drop me a PM.

I always liked the mappings used by the SA forums when you aren't logged in, namely "gently caress" in the place of "****".

Well, we can't both have and not have the serenity words, so you guys can hash it out and I'll implement whatever you guys decide.

I do not care what gets used. I disabled the language filter on my account already. :-)

At first, so did I. Took me a little bit of time to figure out that it was a word replacement filter. That's part of why I like the idea. When well implemented, it doesn't even feel like there's a language filter in place at all.
