Finally! I have been faithful. I have been good. But most of all I have been patient. Oh, so very patient.

I could not live without you. My life was incomplete before you came into it. And then you left so quickly. You left a hole inside of me that nothing else could fill.

But now you're back. And even though you may not stay, I will put my lips upon you as much and as often as I possibly can until you leave again.

It's been too long.

Seven long years, but Mountain Dew Pitch Black is BACK! This is my fourth one in 24 hours. This going to be an awesome, jittery 8 weeks! Woot!

I tried one of those once.

Really, I think that statement stands on its own as far as my opinion of Pitch Black.

Of course. That's how great it is.

I bet it punched its way out of your stomach so you could drink it all over again.

If you don't see any posts from me anymore, I may be in a dew coma. But I will have a smile on my face.

LOL!!!

Wow. If you had said "it's good, you should try it", I probably would. But after the OP, I may have to put this in the category of narcotics....

Part of my humor is based on over-exaggeration. The original Numbuk persona is an over-exaggeration of my over-exaggerating humor, in fact. So while I am very happy Pitch Black is back, I am not sitting in a dark room with tube pumping this stuff into me intravenously.*

Yes, "It's good, you should try it."

;)

* - though that's not a bad idea.

Doesn't that rather violate the spirit of the LDS rules against coffee and tea?

I'd guess that Numbuk doesn't classify Mountain Dew Pitch Black as a "hot drink" as per the WoW/D&C. Since Joseph Smith specifically defined "hot drinks" as coffee and tea, I can see why Numbuk would too.

What is the issue with coffee and tea? And if the stipulation is "hot drinks," what does that mean for iced tea?

They haven't spelled it out, but the "Hot Drinks" are disliked due to the caffeine in them, not the temperature. The question becomes: does one follow the letter of the law or spirit of the law? Only coffee and tea are specifically forbidden, but why are they forbidden?

Yeah, it's a gray area. Some people believe that it's the caffeine is bad. Others believe that it's the tannin in the drinks. The things to note is that "Word of Wisdom" is not an actual "Commandment" and more just that: words of wisdom. No mormon is going to be denied temple access for not eating meat sparigingly, for example. For the most part, the truly faithful will avoid caffeine "Just in case" since there isn't an official ruling on it.

For the record, I'm more of a "Jack Mormon" liberal. My take on things is generally different than most of my faith. For instance (and this is a shocker to a lot of the faithful) I totally believe in Darwin's theory of evolution. I also believe in the Big Bang. I just happen to believe that they were planned. I am very open minded to a lot of things, and I doubt I would call myself of the hardcore faithful. I am also a bit unique in that many of my close friends are homosexual and I've even attended one of my best friends' Commitment Ceremony (a gay wedding without being called a wedding) and was happy to be there. What the average person thinks of a "Mormon" I can pretty much guarantee I will not fit that mould. For good or bad. But probably bad.

So... yeah. I'm cool with drinking caffeine. If I'm sent to hell over that, I am going to laugh.

Aha! So hot drinks does not mean the same thing as high temperature beverages.

Hot Chocolate is regularly consumed on church-sanctioned functions in the winter. Especially Stephen's Gourmet local brand. Great stuff. Especially the mint truffle and chocolate raspberry.

When I first read Taly's post, I couldn't for the life of me fathom what the temperature of the beverage had to do with anything.

I was aware that Mormons avoided tobacco and alcohol (which I can't really judge you for, as I don't use them, either), but tea and coffee was sort of surprising. Neither substance is usually associated with disreputable activities. I can't say as you're missing much, really. I don't have any strong opinion either way about tea, but coffee tastes pretty much like it looks - vile black oil dredged from Satan's bowels.

What an accurate description of coffee Corolinth. I may reuse it sometime.
