I think the white and brown cat was too naturally passive, and the birds and the other cat sensed that about it, so they did what all animals, including humans, do.

Look in a European or Asian bird book. Those are Jackdaws; I thought they were the Eurasian, at first, but searching around reveals that they're probably Daurian Jackdaws, from Eastern Siberia and China. At least, that would be my first take.
