Hehe I agree which is why I said I had no concept of river side cities =P
Our rivers are mostly so small you can swim across it in an hour or so if you're good, it would be nice to see some bigger rivers and lakes but we just don't have the natural under ground waters to support that.

It would be interesting to visit those places but being a water baby I definantly need to have water around.

I am very close to trying to find a job in Chicago.

Chicago's a nice town. Lots of traffic congestion, but if you're from the DC/Maryland megalopolis, it's probably within your tolerances.

Even our large rivers can be swam across. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, but it can be done.

I wouldn't recommend swimming into the Missouri or Mississippi river for any reason, ever unless you have 100% proof that there is a treasure chest of solid gold coins down there.

I swam in the Mississippi every summer growing up - of course, it was before the Miss. reached Iowa.

The Mississippi and Missouri rivers aren't that polluted anymore. I'd still avoid swimming in them, however. Both rivers have powerful currents and the potential for serious undertows.

At least, I wouldn't recommend swimming in them around St. Louis. Further upstream you'd be fine.

Doubtful. I recall some years ago news stories about someone swimming the Mississippi from the headwaters to New Orleans, for some cause or another. Now, I don't think he swam down dead center, but he wasn't where he could put his feet on the bottom.

Darksiege, do you actually live in Las Vegas? Your economic prospects really aren't good. I just read that the health care bill has a provision that helps pay for it by changing the current gambling tax laws from taxing net winnings to taxing gross winnings. That means Vegas is going to owe billions in extra federal taxes every year. Remember, most gamblers lose, so taxing net winnings costs virtually nothing, but taxing gross winnings costs billions.

Yeah I live in Vegas. The current administration seems determined to destroy this town... First they tell everyone not to come here; and then they decides that gambling taxes are going to pay for a chunk of this healthcare bill. This town is hurting quite a bit already.

I hate this bunch of people we have in office right now. There is no way to properly vocalize the amount of hate I have for these people.

If you have a win of $1200 or over the casino has to record it and you have to fill out a W2-G form, to get your winnings. This is how the IRS knows your gross winnings. They can't track the really low level gamblers but even a $35 bet on a roulette number will get you one of these forms if you win.

I'm utterly surprised it's getting no press. The federal government really wants to stamp out gambling and they resort to sticking hostile legislation in random unrelated laws, just like how they made Internet gambling illegal with a rider on the Safe Port Act.

This will just force gambling underground and put the casinos out of business.

Las Vegas will become a slum full of red light districts, strip clubs, and drug dealers/addicts.

I havn't been to Vegas in... forever... but I guess the point I'm making is that the businesses that thrive on legitimate gambling (i.e. casino's, hotels, restaurants, etc... ), will all suffer, probably to the point of failure... and the stuff I described will be all that is left..

I know, I was being a dick. That said, the only thing worth a **** in this town as it is are the relationships I have cultivated. I hate this god damned town, I always have.

My mom works with a gambling addict who won something like $200k and then lost it all the same year. But the way taxes are it doesn't matter, she still owed taxes on the $200k.
