The Glade 4.0

Anyone have one? I have been perusing them and can't see too much of a difference in the Xoom/Iconia/Transformer. The Samsung 10" and Toshiba 10" are supposed to be coming out soon but I'm not sure they are going to add much to the mix. Everything seems to be some variant of the Tegra 2/1GB DDR/16GB storage (expandable)

I have been demoing a Dell Streak 7 at work but it has the same OS as my phone. It is nice but I think I need to try out something with Android 3.0.

They don't score it because it's a developer unit, but they say in the conclusion that it's really the only iPad2 "competitor" so far.



Pretty strong words considering their always-favorable Apple reviews.

When does it come out?

I read the review at cnet which also confirmed it was missing HDMI and a card slot. Hopefully the non dev version will have these but I'm having a hard time believing it will be only 499 if it does include them.

Seems the 3G will have a MicroSD slot, but I guess the Wifi-only version is out of luck? Doesn't look like you're going to get HDMI either, as the old Tab uses a proprietary TV plug with RCA.

I might be ok with 32GB w/o a card reader but RCA? Really? Jeez does it come with an RF switch too?

Of course, it would not surprise me if Android had a streaming application that would work just fine over Wifi

Galaxy is out next Friday (17 June). Accessories include an HDMI and SD card reader (plugged into the 30 pin slot at the bottom). Good call Lenas - going to preorder one now. Just cant decide between 16 and 32.

Interesting, I just got an Asus EEE Transformer on Friday.

Playing around with it now, but so far I like it Haven't been able to hack around with the Netflix app to get it to work, but otherwise its a super powered version of my phone...

I have the older 7" Galaxy Tab which personally I love, even if it only has a single core 1ghz cpu vs the newer tablets dual core cpus and only android 2.2, while it would be nicer to have at least gingerbread which honestly atm I think I would prefer over honeycomb due to lack of honeycomb specific apps it's still great.

IMO it's the perfect size too, I find the larger ones to be a bit to big to be truly portable, the 7" tab I can easily throw into any purse no problem, plus the size means it's lighter, almost half a pound lighter than an ipad 2 which makes holding it, especially one handed for a for a while far more comfortable, even more so since it's small enough to hold it just like you would a phone, and with swype you can type that way too, it's how I'm holding it typing this right now actually.

Sas I've got a 7" Dell Streak at work and I like it quite a bit. Fits nicely in my back pocket (yay guy jeans). At work I use it to check mail and my tickets as I am constantly in different buildings. And for that it works out fantastically. However when I take it home I find it gets a bit heavy but that may just be the Dell (and I am used to reading on my Kindle) And the 7" format doesn't accommodate reading comics very well.

Looks like a good way to make thumb typing a reality with a 10" tablet. Hopefully my Galaxy will be here this weekend.

Crim how do you like the Transformer? All the reviews I read said it was the end all be all of Android tablets. Almost got one myself but I wanted the lightest thing I could get.

Yeah, the streak is a bit heavier than the Galaxy Tab, 15.8oz to 17.6oz depending on the version vs 13.56oz for the Galaxy Tab, Which is surprising given it has a significantly smaller battery than the Galaxy Tab and the same form factory size. Also I think the comic thing may have to do more with the Streaks screen, the Streak only has an 800x480 display vs the 1024x600 on the Galaxy Tab, I find web comics fine read on my Tab.

The Dell Streak was actually one of the others on my list that met my requirement of having a docking port capable of both audio out and charging with that single connector, but between the screen res, smaller battery and poor reviews I went with the Galaxy Tab instead, the Streaks one real advantage is the Terga 2 processor, but the reviews I raid said their implementation was so poor that even with the faster processor it was so bogged down.

I've been temped to get that keyboard actually cause I saw it on Amazon's app store a few days ago since none of the included keyboards are that great for landscape typing.


Definitely can't go wrong with the 10.1" Galaxy Tab though, I've heard nothing but great things about it, I was considering waiting for it's smaller 8.9" brother but even that was a little bit to large for my application (mounting it to the dash in my car).

Im really liking it. Its about the same weight as an Ipad mk1 (friend of mine has one of those), and now that Ive found a way to get my fansubs onto it, im all set go go widescreen HD movies
