Finally! I downloaded it and tested a few movies at my desk with just cell coverage (2 out of 6 bars). On the Evo 4G the quality was great, no pauses for buffering and audio through headphones was good.

The Honeycomb version still isn't on the Market (just FYI for Tablet owners).

It could probably be sideloaded if you have root though (I haven't tried).

Ahh yes... Android beaten to the Netflix Punch by WP7... bitten by the "Fragementation" bug again....

So far, theses are the only android devices that are supported.

• HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
• HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
• HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
• HTC G2 with Android 2.2
• Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3.

Arafys, Android, unfortunately is not Android... and the further along things go, the more fragmented the platform gets.

There are six kernels in active development, and couple of others that are still commonly used. Then add the complexity of the vast variations in hardware that it runs on, and the different front ends that the manufacturers build in.. and then the restrictions that some service providers put on them, then expand this internationally.... Then add the complexity of the fact that many users are rooting their phones as fast as they take them out of the box, and thus running 'custom' builds, and not getting official updates (as rare as they are).

Yea, platform fragmentation is a serious issue with android right now. Application development has slowed considerably as developers struggle to try to develop and support applications across all of the possible variations...

I heard a major reason why only certain phones are supported has to do with the chip. The newer chips have some sort of DRM capability built into them. That was the hold up the entire time, trying to get DRM on the streaming.

Just sideloaded it on my vanilla Droid and watched part of a movie. Need an SD card though as it would not work on my SD cardless tablet (running 2.2).

Which is actually pretty ridiculous. If the service providers didn't put retarded front ends/skins/what the hell ever, we wouldn't need to root our phones to get rid of the performance sapping bs. Put out a phone, with a standardized OS that everyone can use. That's how it was supposed to work.

Maybe there is something to the closed market proprietary OS model after all. Our Netflix has worked fine for months.

It's called the Nexus S :p~~

Edit: I have access to just about any current handset TMO sells at no cost to me, but my personal phone is a Nexus S that I paid full price for (not available on our employee plan).

Just for the reasons you stated... well, that and v6 stack I have on it :p

I have it working on my unrooted droidx now. Performance is fine...

Someone at xda developers removed the new device check.

HBO Go managed to get their mobile video player to work on all android phones, not sure why Netflix can't.
