I found an ad on Craigslist last week looking for a cook, specifically an "Awesome, Nice & Cool Cook". OK, so I'm awesome, nice, and cool... and I can cook. I checked out the places website and Yelp and I sent an email and resume. They liked (I was a bit tongue-in-cheek, sort of a litmus test for a place that's going to be a good fit), and put me to work for a few days. And they are keeping me.

Soups made from scratch with fresh ingredients... they don't even HAVE a freezer, and 'dry storage' is all beans, rice, and paper goods. Over 400 different soups, 10 every day, changing all the time. And a clean kitchen... I mean really clean; my boss is not only ServSave certified, he's a teacher. The man has HAACP like some folks have Jesus. Seriously, I'd lick the floor. I love it. It's nice to be working, and it's frikkin' wonderful to be working in a place I really believe in.

So part of the job is that I eat free when I'm working... I told him "you may regret it, I can eat a LOT of soup" and he said "Bring it!"

Today I had beef chili, a baguette, and a s'mores brownie
Tuesday I had chicken noodle and half a grilled cheese
Monday I had ginger rosemary soup and half a reuben
Sunday I had a take-home of caramelized garlic soup served like french onion
Saturday I had poblano corn chowder and a turkey and cheese melt
Friday I had mushroom and ivory lentil soup and a gluten-free bar thingie
Thursday I had the best creamy tomato soup in my life, and half a tuna melt

Awesome sauce! I mean, soup! That's great that you found a job that is such a good fit for you both personally and professionally. Hooray! I'm happy for you.

Dang, menu makes the place sound wonderful, one I would patronize regularly. Isn't Evergreen a little up in the mountains? How is the commute?

The commute is the only down side... about 45 minutes. It's a lovely drive, though, and it is in three distinct sections, so it's not boring. When the winter comes they know I won't be able to make it in if the roads close, and there's a bunk bed in the back if I can't make it home safely.

Congrats!

So, did you make "the best creamy tomato soup" in your life that you ate, too? Or was that another cook's job for the day?

Edit: Oh, and, Stella's hot. :D

Bugger.

Turns out that what they really needed was an awesome fast dishwasher who can occasionally cut onions, and I'm a speedy prep cook who is slow on dishes.

Unemployed again.
