Don't get me wrong, I understand the gadget whoreyness. I tend to that myself.

But if you have an iPad... why would you need a Nook touch, it seems a less capable, more narrow focused device would just be a bit of a waste of money.

E-ink vs. LCD. Each have their separate uses. Hard to read the iPad in the passenger seat of a long car ride, for instance. And E-ink is less eyestrain. But multi-tasking, reading at night, general all-around use? iPad.

I think the better question would be "If you have a Kindle, why would you need a Nook Touch?" To that, I have no answer. Except for really, really liking the Nook Touch design, and general gadget whoreyness. :D

My bad. I was comparing apples to err... oranges. No pun intended. Well, actually, maybe a little pun intended.

You're right, the question is if you have a Kindle, why get a nook touch.

And I don't see an answer to that either. So Gadget Whore away! ;)

How much of your Kindle library will be accessible from your Nook?

Uh, none. /sadface

My mom's hinting that she supports me getting a Nook Touch so I can give her my Kindle. By "hinting" I mean "posting 'I say go for it and pass your Kindle down to me. ;)'" on my Facebook page. :P

Gadget whoreyness shall prevail in the face of adversity!

And also a Nook v.1. So at least he's already got a library started up...

Mmm. Upgraded (well, replaced) today. My old Nook had a booboo, and I kept putting off going into the store, since it's a good hour drive through rush hour (if I go after work) each way to my nearest B&N. Then, when I finally made it down a couple weeks ago, I find out that I had misremembered my purchase date by about a month, and was out of warranty. The timing worked out, I suppose, as the announcement of the Nook 2 came out the day before I went down, so I decided to just wait instead of inquiring about out-of-warranty repair costs.

The screen glitched and stopped rendering about a fifth of the screen space, for those who are wondering.

But it's all good. The new one is smexy.

The question, Kaffis, is which case (if any) did you get?

I got the industrelle or whatever one. Matte grey, slightly rubberized texture. Same style as my old nook's easel case, only, well, not an easel.

Not sure if I like it. I feel like it increases the bulk much more than the original nook's cases, so it doesn't fit as comfortably into my pocket as sans case (or original nook with case). This might be a symptom of the easel case having the joint at the top, not a side, allowing it to be narrower.

The real damning factor for the case, though, is that it's much more awkward to hold. The Nook 2 has a really nice ergonomic design. The indentation in the back is phenomenally comfortable, and gets covered over with any of the cases. Moreover, since it's a side-fold cover, and it's not designed to fold completely back on itself like the easel case was, I end up with flapping front cover that throws the balance off and wants to flap forward if I'm reading in bed.

Nook 2 is coverless, at the moment. I'll probably apply cover for travel and whatnot, where I anticipate a higher chance of bumps and such.

My only gripe about the Nook 2 itself, so far, is that the page-turning buttons (which I find more appealing than rubbing or tapping my fingerprints on the screen itself just to turn a page) are stiffer than the nook's. It's a minor nitpick, but one that goes in the "why did they decide to change what wasn't broke?" category.

In the interest of full disclosure, the screen flickering reduction is neat, but does come at a minor cost. Since the screen doesn't flash all the way to black and back every page turn, the times it doesn't allow a very minor (but discernable, if you look for it) ghosting effect. Page to page, it's not noticeable as you're reading, and certainly not to the point where it becomes distracting. However, when the screensaver image comes on in sleep mode, the fact that it's a greyscale image makes the minor ghosting from the previous page a little more pronounced and manifests as a slight horizontal striping effect. Again, though, during reading, I find the tiny amount of ghosting less distracting than the page turn flash (and even that was something I learned to tune out on the old generation of displays/firmware).

Finally got around to writing a bit. Whole buncha thoughts on the Nook Touch, Kindle 3, and their predecessors here.
