I downloaded the free version of epiNote. Unfortunately, I'm finding that everything I write ends up retard-big.

Getting an iPad2 for saving mgmt's *** on a project at work. Already downloaded some apps that were on sale in may (mine is backordered, supposed to be here June 6th *crosses fingers*).

Picked up the KORG iMS-20 (was on sale till may 31st), and infinity blade (was on sale for 2.99). Everything else i've preloaded is free. Intrigued by this though: http://www.nomadbrush.com/

I'll also HIGHLY recommend Galaxy on Fire 2 for games. It's a space RPG, good controls, awesome graphics, and a really big universe to explore. The dev's keep up with updates as well.

Spoiler:
Infinity Blade: You kill or die to the God King at the end of the dungeon, you advance to the next "level", called the next bloodline. If you GET killed by the Dark Knight right before him, on the first time through, you go into "negative bloodlines" or back into the past.

Infinity Blade can hang up really badly with Game Center- I stay logged out when I play.

There's a WoW clone out there too that's supposed to be pretty good, as well as Dungeon Defender (Diablo/Torchlight Clone).

Also excited about picking up Morphwiz (created with Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater) once I finally get the damn thing!

http://www.morphwiz.com/index.php

Man, this guy is awesome. Most ipad apps so far you just get the app, good luck with it! He's got an entire site of tutorials on how to create with it.

Did you guys know you can use a full size USB keyboard with the iPad? I bought a camera connection kit (I.E. 29$ USB port for the Ipad that should've been built in) and a powered USB hub so that I could connect my MIDI keyboard to the iPad music apps. However, while looking around to see if there were any virtual keyboard alternatives this morning (Apple has apparently blocked them all, which is a shame, ipad needs Swype BADLY) I found an article that said you could use the Camera kit to hook up your USB keyboard as well.

Because the USB connection on ipad is SO low power I haven't had anything that I didn't have to plug into the USB hub, including a standard keyboard. However, after plugging it into the powered hub, while the ipad gives a "This device is not supported" error when plugging in, the keyboard works just fine. Can't use non-virtual keyboard keys (like home, pgup/dn), but for text entry works great. (not really portable, but for your desk, if you already have the camera kit, cheaper than the 70$ apple keyboards (and more comfortable to type on).

Yeah, I've heard of people doing that.

I use the apple Bluetooth keyboard personally- it's easy to carry around with the iPad for when I need to do more typing.

As for the alternative onscreen keyboards, they're coming with iOS5, from what I understand.

There are also lots of other comfortable, cheap bluetooth keyboards- Logitech has a few nice ones.

I just watched a Swype demo video on YouTube, and I can't see how it's any faster or more convenient for a tablet than the built-in virtual keyboards they already have. I can see how they'd be better on a smartphone.

A big one is being able to quickly enter text with one finger while holding the tablet with your other hand. As well, Swype 3.0 (on android) has multiple sizes of keyboards, one full size (same as ipad), and one smaller that can be moved to a location (for instance, putting it to one side to use that hand for entry).

Vid:

To get any real entry speed on the current ipad keyboard, I personally have to lay it down and type with both hands. Hunting with one finger (or your thumb) is fine until you try to enter a large amount of text.

I just flip it portrait, and hold with one hand/type with the other.

Especially once you learn the swipe shortcuts for punctuation, it's quite easy.

Cool, just learning the interface. How do you do the swipe punctuation?

Period is .->space
Comma and semicolon are similar.
Quotes is either space->" or "->space, depending on whether it's a leading or trailing quotation mark.

Those are the 4 I use regularly.

Actually, you can swipe up on the two punctuation buttons on the side of the keyboard to get apostrophe and quotation marks. Left button gives you apostrophe, right gives quotation.

If you hover over the buttons, you can see what the "swipe" commands are- some have more than one. Getting fluid with them helped save a lot of time in going into the punctuation/number section of the keyboard.

There's a "tips and tricks" section in the iPad section of the Mac Rumors forum that has some really helpful stuff in it.

Also note that double clicking the home button opens the "open applications" menu, and you can either use that to swap to another open app, or press and hold to close apps running in the background. Your battery life will go up a lot if you close background apps.

Also, go into the general settings -> restrictions, and set "ping" to off. That will help save a lot of battery life as well.

Hmm. I don't know what buttons you're talking about. Is that an iPad-only Swype feature?

On my android phone, I can also do '->s to add 's to any word.

Oh, I think the lines got crossed in there Kaffis, the ipad doesn't actually have Swype, it has the ability to swipe certain key combinations. :) I was wondering why your recommendations didn't work on my ipad keyboard.

And great tips about battery life Neph, I had noticed since installing apps my battery life was sucking (it was so great before I put anything on). I'll have to see what's running in the background.

Some apps will drain your battery life even when the iPad is suspended... Especially if they have anything with some sort of push notifications that will connect them to the internet. If you really want to conserve battery life you can turn on airplane mode when you don't need wifi.

So apostrophe is above coma, and quotation marks are above the period, now that I have my keyboard to look at.

You can also access other symbols by holding and swiping on the correct letter... Æ, à, etc. By holding and swiping "a" for example.

Hey, it just occurred to me what cool thing you can do with your iPad - buy a new one!

Heh, sorry, just couldn't resist after reading that something like 42% of current iPad owners plan to buy the new one that's coming out.

Meh. It's the apple craze. Same thing happened last generation, and I was able to pick up a 1st gen really cheap.

Might do the same thing with a second gen this time around, and pass the first gen off to a family member.

Isn't that what iCloud is for? Don't they do that stuff automagically?
