Yeah, **** it. I'm not bothering with the last episode or any further live action adaptations of later books. That was bullshit.

Hilarious quote I saw on another board....

Quote:

If you don't get it, they made a big deal out of Sophie Turner (the girl who plays Sansa) adopting Sansa's "direwolf" after she got the knife, to counter the PETA nuts freaking out about it.

Too bad you feel that way, as it is a great story. But if you do feel that way it is probably for the best that you end it here.

Of course, when I was reading a certain scene I believe I threw my Kindle across the room and said F%@# this book, then picked it back up the next day and started reading again.

I did think it was interesting to see today's climax NOT limited to Arya's perspective. Yoren's appearance was previously (with only the books as a source) purely a coincidence, wasn't it?

Wasn't exactly coincidence. He was there specifically to take Ned to the wall. Finding Arya in the crowd was a bit lucky though.

That's what I meant. In tonight's episode, though, Ned calls Arya to his attention as he gets prodded past.

Lucky for me, NF has been prepping me for this for a year what with all his vague warnings about the nasty way the author pisses the readers off and "don't get too attached to ANYONE"...that led me to guess last week what was going to happen so I wasn't too shocked.
Still sucked though.

I feel your pain, I felt the same way reading the books the first time, I almost never went back to it. That said, you will be missing out if you don't. However, be warned, Ned won't be the last major character to go... That said, the story would not be the same without the death, it is the straw that as they say, breaks the camels back, and really sets things in motion. Besides, how many stories do you watch/read where you really feel the danger is real and the hero could truely die at any moment? Once the shock and pain diminished, I started reading again, and for me, it really made it that much harder to put the books down.

Do any major characters die in Empire Strikes Back?

Han Solo, sort of. It's funny that you pick the only one where a significant character doesn't die.

That's true. It was very unfair to omit the death of Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode 1.

Seconded. If you ever want a book to have real tension in it, sacrifices must be made! No other way to do it unless you just give in and embrace the guaranteed safety.

But there's no point in reading or watching something if the only character that was remotely interesting dies.

Very true. Its a good thing there are a ton of interesting characters in this series (some of whom haven't even been seen yet).

The midget is still around! I like him. And at this point I'm hoping that one of the other Lanisters (any of them) gets a hot poker right in the corn hole. I HATE THE LANISTERS! Except for the midget. He's cool.
At this point, I'm sticking around hoping that something bad happens to one of them, and also because I really like the Khaleesi storyline...well, up until this past episode where I'm not exactly sure where the heck they are going with it. I'm hoping she like walks through fire or something dragon-like to prove some mystical powers or some crap like that.
I will be upset when/if she is killed off because I've already decided that if I have a girl baby some day I am going to name her Khaleesi.

I've said similar before, but someone on the FoH boards put it so well I'm borrowing his words...but up until this point was foreplay, and now the actual story begins.

And as for warnings about not getting too attached to anyone; I think those warnings do a disservice. The characters are just so well written IMO, that a big part of the joy of reading the series is getting to know and love the characters, and trying to keep your distance takes away from that.

There were moments in the series that I found myself jumping up for joy, screaming and fist-pumping out of excitement, and it just wouldn't have had that impact if I didn't allow myself to get attached. No other written work of fiction had ever done that for me.

I see where you are coming from on that one, Coren, but NF knows that if he didn't warn me I would have probably hurled the TV across the room or something. I am a VERY passionate person and get emotionally attached to characters in a good story very easily.
