I saw some news stories recently about Alaska releasing some 25,000 emails from Sarah Palin. Apparently, I'm late to the party, because nobody is taking about why these emails are being released anymore.

So, what's up? Did she lose a bet or something?

No, from what I could tell from coming into the middle of an NPR Weekend Edition report on the subject, Alaska has robust transparency rules. This was a Freedom of Information Act kind of deal, and basically some media outlet (the NYT?) is trying to find dirt on her via crowdsourcing by inviting people to look through them.

New Media is crying foul because it looks like a blatantly partisan attempt to find skeletons that would keep her from announcing a presidential candidacy, the NYT is claiming it's an experiment, and if it's successful, they'll start doing it to both sides of the aisle.

That's about as much as I got from my car ride.

That's because it is a blatantly partisan attempt to find skeletons. Sarah Palin made Democrats look bad by being a woman VP candidate.

In some way that Geraldine Ferraro didn't make Republicans look bad? Just pointing out that she wasn't the first female VP candidate, if that was your point.

One it was a different age/time when Ferraro did it, secondly she did it as a democract if I call correctly? Thus she was a Feminist icon, a glass cieling shatterer, and all that crap. As a "D" she was a media friendly. Palin is everything Liberals hate and despise, the worse sort of turn coat, she has a vagina, so she should be a liberal feminst who supports abortion! So they, the majority of the media, both news, entertainment, and both, have dedicated their time to destroying and mocking her in any way shape or form.

The emails are regarding the Troopergate scandal, where it is alledged the Sarah Palin may have used her office to improperly attempt to get her ex-brother in law fired from his job as an Alaska State Trooper. The legal costs and fallout are some of the reasons why Palin resigned her post as governor before her term was up. The delay, IIRC, was because Alaska had to collate and organize the emails from several different accounts and they didn't want to pay for it.

If the scope was just limited to the trooper incident. Its also leftover Freedom of info requests from her VP run. Seems more like another left attempt to slander Palin this time using a bunch of eager peons. Palin derangement syndrome again. The left has quite literally thrown every possible smear at her yet she doesn't go away. Why so much effort on their part? Maybe teach those pesky skirts a lesson? Play house with the dems or we are going to make pornos with your likeness in it?

MSNBC is using this tactic to avoid getting any of their crap on their image. Ie the Obama method. Use peons to do your dirty work and seem above it all.

As far as I know, these requests were made several years ago.

Secondly, they've said that similar requests for the other candidates' records are forthcoming. Let's see if that's true.

The Republicans do not attempt to bill themselves as the equal rights party that looks out for women and minorities.

Why do you think Oprah quit her show? She's getting her campaign ready.

I'm not a huge fan of Oprah, but frankly, we could do a whole lot worse. History suggests that she's a woman who knows how to make responsible decisions with vast sums of money.

Her stated beliefs and actions are abhorrent to me. If she gets elected thenmight as well make Rosie O'Donnell education czar.

When did we start using the term czar in this country anyway? Can we just not have czars?

Do we have a hard date for that? It seems like it became more prevalent in our lexicon recently. :ugeek:

Everyone uses it nowadays, just like the dreaded word "app". Apparently Halo is an app now (according to this).

It's difficult to pin down an exact day, however a few years ago when Russia was embracing capitalism and offering a critique of why U.S. fiscal policy was failing, it became apparent that the communist takeover of the United States was complete. (At the same time, it appears that a capitalist takeover of Russia has also occurred - an argument could be made that the current global climate is therefore a draw).

Sometime between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Republicans became convinced that the Cold War had been won and communism vanquished. Then, in 2001 we focused our efforts entirely on terrorism and forgot the lesson we learned from Ronald Reagan, that communism is the true threat. Left unchecked, they took over Congress and the Senate, and eventually the presidency.

Russia still has it's fair share of economic issues and capitalisim isn't one of them. When was teris released in the US? I think that's the day. Clear a line, comrade.

Thanks for the Palin explanations, my head doesn't work normally, didn't see what you were getting at.

Drug Czar? Funny, I thought it became popular under the first Bush, but according to Wikipedia

Quote:
The 'drug czar' title was first published in a 1982 news story by United Press International which reported that “Senators... voted 62–34 to establish a ‘drug czar’ who would have overall responsibility for U.S. drug policy.”

If you look at the "tsar" page, too, it looks like it started getting used in the late 'teens of the early 20th century. Huh.

They should make a new title called "Caesar". I would totally run for office for that.

I dunno Chief. I think we are doing a better job of being communist than Russia is of being capitalist.
