Mage: Better AoE thanks to Blizzard at a much earlier level, more mobile and have some utility, but survivability is less of an issue.

Warlock: Weaker AoE, more tricks, and healing spells and talents.

Warlock can be way more fun than mage but mage when done well can be face melting with less work.

Either way, get the cloth shoulders and robe from Crusader Seals.

I have an 'almost 40' mage. After playing a hunter, it is definitely a very different experience. They can be spec'd to solo well, and if grinding is your thing (over questing) you can even spec for AoE madness. I tried a bit of this and it's fun, but gets boring, so I went back to a PvE/Questing/Leveling build.

it's definitely a nice change of pace from the hunter... whether or not its more or less fun is definitely a subjective thing. Mages do (at least mine does) spend a lot of time on his @$$ drinking summoned mana drinks...

I have:
Wyrmrest Accord:
Bad Apples
Phaedraz - Warlock - 80 - 1st char - 450 Min/Enc
Ahrilly - Mage - 80 - AH mule #1 - 450 Eng/450 Tail
Lichten - Holydin - 80 - wife's current - 450 JC/Ins
Hillkät - Warrior - 77 - wife's alt - 450 Herb/Alc
Zwei - DK - 60
Mutart - Paladin - 26 - made for a friend's server - Dead man walking
Defyant - Rogue - 19
Nuttan - Druid - 12 - made for a friend's server
Rueknee - Priest - 2 - AH mule #2

Lysteria - Hunter - 80 - wife's 1st char - 441 LW / 450 Skin
Teiws - Protadin - 80 - my current - 450 Min/BS
Coynpurse - Shaman - 65 - 431 JC - my current alt of choice
Eïn - DK - 62 - wife's
Hillkat - Priest - 26 - wife's for the friend's server
Nalia - Paladin - 7 - wife's alt before I said 'pal/pal works better than pal/warlock' - Dead man walking
Honie - Shaman - 7 - wife's for a friend's server

That's only 16 characters (9 and 7) and room for 1 more when Cata comes out on each account, though some may meet the delete fate sooner rather than later. (and yes, Nuttan + Honie was supposed to be tank + heals... awesome, right?)

How the hell are you up to 10?

EDIT: Added server/guild/relevant tradeskills

Thanks again for those searches Noggel, I refer back to them often.

So last night I scored the Edge of Ruin. A nice i219 upgrade from my Argent Tournament 2 hander to be sure. I have Pawn set up with the stats string for Ret Pallies I found on Elitist Jerks site. It rates the Edge over 1000 as opposed to the Claymore at 825ish and that's with no enchant yet on the Edge. So a real nice boost once I get the last 45 weaponskill points for 2h axe and enchant it up. One problem is losing the 67 (!) hit rating from the Claymore.

Which brings me to this nifty item that I can buy with Conquest emblems: Spiked Battleguard Choker 45 Hit on it, nice amount of str on it, a big upgrade to my current neck item, and eliminates one of my few remaining blue/green items. Plus I already have the 19 emblems for it. Only downside there is I *JUST* spent 10 Champion seals on a new blue neck item (oh well) and I could potentially win a purple 219 neck in H ToC for free but neither is as good as this one so I'm going to grab it.

So I make up 45 of the 67 Hit I lost with the neck piece, I've been meaning to socket my belt with that buckle of whatever that gives you a gem slot and I'll put a 20 hit gem in that. Done and done.

Definately get the neck, it's one of the best you'll find for a while. The one from HToC isn't nearly as good- and is 219 vs 226 ilevel.

Also for hit troubles, look into getting the Titanforged Bracers of Triumph from Wintergrasp- yes, they are PvP- but you won't find upgrades to them for quite a while.

As I recall, they cost 15 Wintergrasp Marks of Honor, which you can grind out pretty fast doing WG.

PvP gear for PvE is by no means ideal, but don't shut it out as an upgrade path if it's better than your alternatives.

Wristbands of the Sentinal Huntress are more of a sidegrade, really, which leaves the new ToC craftables as the next non-raiding upgrade to those wrists.

Similarly, I have some of the ilevel 251 PvP gloves from VoA- and it won't be until I get some T9 pieces that I replace them.

Good stuffs Dash! And yeah, that neck from conquest emblems is pretty solid. Really great value if you're not way over hit cap.

As for alts... argh! So many!

On my main server (Velen) I am stuck at 10 characters. The problem is I'm too big of a packrat! I have four mules... though technically I can drop one of them if I really need to as she doesn't do much nowadays except buy me really cheap limited quantity herbs for milling.

80 Druid (LW + Alchemy with elixir mastery)
80 Shaman (Herbalism + Alchemy with transmute mastery)
80 Hunter (Mining + JC)
80 Rogue (Inscription + Enchanting)
65 Warrior (BS + Engineering)
Mules 1, 2, 3, and 4
Alliance AH merchant char

I have a strong suspicion my next alt, and any Cataclysm alts, will be done on my Alliance server where I do have some room. Along with one (1) mule, I have my Rogue from back in the day (still in his Ragnaros gear!) and a 60something new Mage I was leveling up with a friend from outside WoW... but ultimately I just want to roll a Gnome again! Gnome priest, perhaps, with a buddy rolling Gnome Warrior, and a third buddy who once had a char called Morgania who needs to roll a new char Worgania just because the name is too cool not to do.

Shoot, I completely forgot about cataclysm.. when is that coming out? and will I need a hardware upgrade?

E6600/Nvidia 8800GTX ?

I do ok at 1900x1200 with above average settings, except in Dalaran and around large inland water areas (ungoro crater lags me a bit for example).

Anyone know what the new expansion graphics engine is going to need?

No release date of course for Cataclysm yet. We have patch 3.3 coming in approximately 1 month as my guess, then, assuming Blizzard doesn't pull anything sneaky, likely a few months with 3.3 before we have patch 4.0. Patch 4.0 will add in the mechanics type changes that Cataclysm will bring, and possibly a rebalancing of some Wrath raids and the like (though I'm expecting this to be a lot more minor compared to 3.0, if it happens at all). A month or two later, Cataclysm should release.

The above is based on past info for how Blizzard has done expansions before and, to my knowledge, has had no contrary information released yet. We'll see if Blizzard keeps to their routine, however.

So... June-ish? I can't see it happening sooner than May, and that would be pretty fast. Maybe there are some business-side issues to consider which will affect this prediction. And maybe Blizzard will delay Cataclysm (gasp! Blizzard?!) and give us a patch 3.4 with something to keep us busy. Another Dragonflight mini-instance to go along with Obsidian Sanctum, perhaps, or the traditional troll instance which would reasonably be in the big building by Gundrak, something Zul'Aman style. If this were to happen it would likely be another November release for Cataclysm.

In either case it won't be for awhile yet.

Cataclysm beta hasn't even been really discussed yet by Blizzard, but there would be room in the above timeline to fit it in starting around February. Hrm. Probably want to keep your eye on beta news as your best bet for figuring out a release date.

And I don't think there are any significant graphical changes outside the new water system, so likely it will be the standard bump in system requirements WoW expansions have brought in the past. Should be nothing big.

Wouldn't it be hot if 3.3 dropped tomorrow?

:)

Getting tired of running the 5 ToC bosses 3 times a week.

Nooo my guild needs time to find a new Holy Paladin after ours "traded up" with no warning. But at least she got her server first Algalon25 kill that day! ..

Then I'll be ready. Cause some of the Icecrown fights look pretty sweet. :p Professor Putricide might be the 2nd awesomest boss ever, and that's saying something because no MMO can top or even reach the awesomeness that is Mimiron again. The genre's all downhill since Ulduar.

I appreciate the advice about Accuracy v. Blade Ward.

I am using Peacekeeper with one iLvl 200 ring to make up the loss in +def.

I put Icebreaker on it because I had a scroll sitting around.

I am thinking of Titanium Weapon Chain (+28 hit and 50% disarm reduc) and then put the 2 points from Pursuit of Justice into Vindication.

That way, I can more easily nerf incoming damage (and I believe it stacks with JotJ).

Thoughts?

Terenas Server:

80 Undead Rogue (skinning + LW)
80 Orc Hunter (JC + Eng)
80 Undead DK (Mining + BS)
69 BE Mage (Herb + Ins)
63 Tauren Druid (Skinning + LW)
60 Orc Warlock (Herb + Alch)
53 Troll Priest (Tailoring + Enchanting)
24 BE Paladin (Mining + BS)
20 Dranei Shaman (Alliance AH *****)
Slot saved for my Goblin Warrior in Cata

As seems to happen every few months, my newest guild imploded over the weekend. The guild leader and his yes men... er officers all transferred to Azjol-Nerub, though they did give us about 24 hours warning! lol.

Honestly, the guild would have been fine without most of the officers (they were mostly ineffectual/worthless). The server is better off as a whole imo, without the guild leader and one specific officer as well. The problem is that they basically destroyed the second best horde guild on the server by not allowing anyone to continue on as the guild. The decided to disband the guild entirely instead of letting people who remained try to continue on.

We were talking about setting up another guild when one of the... less effective members went ahead and started one. A guild run by this person is going to go nowhere, so I've decided to not join it.

So at this point I've finally talked my brother into a server transfer, and we're trying to work out where. Current thought is Blackrock, as we'd like to get on a pacific server, and the horde pop is quite advanced.

Good times were had by all, of course.

You should be able to keep both. Personally, I will not give up the +speed from PoJ, it helps with intercepting mobs, etc.

An armory/WoWHeroes link would help with the enchant advice. You can look up Jemi on Terenas to see what I've done with my prot offset.

I have a placeholder +50 AP enchant in my Peacekeepers Blade atm, but I will probably be putting either Mongoose or +26 Agi on it in the long run.

I assume you're in mostly Heroic type gear, if that is the case you should be easily soft-capped on Hit and probably hard-capped on expertise.

It's only the later gear that is really lacking in those stats.

Unless your hit rating is really low, or you're having a good bit of trouble with *initial* aggro (AS missing, or somesuch), then you probably would be better off putting an avoidance/EH enchant on the weapon than a +hit one.

Any tips on a good assist macro? I want one to set a focus and one to just assist my focus target. Any other suggestions welcome. Right now I'm gonna try one of these:

http://www.wowwiki.com/Useful_macros

Swap focus / target

Quote:
/stopmacro [noexists][target=focus,noexists]
/target focus
/targetlasttarget
/focus
/targetlasttarget

Advanced swap focus / target

Quote:
/focus [target=focus, noexists]
/target [combat, noexists] focus
/clearfocus [nocombat, noexists]
/stopmacro [target=focus, noexists]
/target focus
/targetlasttarget
/focus [exists]
/targetlasttarget

Sets the focus if you don't have one; clears the focus if you're out of combat and don't have a target; targets the focus if you're in combat and don't have a target; otherwise swaps the target and focus.

So, my Enhancement Shaman just hit 40, hurray!

Up till now I've been sort of coasting through, not really caring what kind of gear I've put on him since I'm always duo'ing with a friend of mine. Should my primary stats be Agility, Attack Power and Stamina? What about hit? I figure I can make some ok leveling gear for him on my DK Blacksmither now. Also, anyone have a leveling Enchance build they wouldnt mind sharing? Just wanna see if I'm spending my points wisely.

Enhancement is pretty straightforward, and you have the right stats more or less in mind. I'm almost never fond of Stamina for leveling but I'll admit I'm in the minority on that. :p Talentwise is fairly simple, too, though things have changed a bit since I leveled mine up. I'd probably have something like this at level 40. I personally used Stoneclaw Totem often while leveling (still use it a lot when solo, and I even glyph for it in my nonraid spec), and while I tried to use totems often I can't say I did all that much, so totem talents weren't a top priority. If you use them often, those talents aren't too shabby.

By level 60 I'd just have continued up the Enhancement tree to end up with something boring like this. If you want to take a totem talent or two I'd probably get them at this point. That tier 1 talent is pretty sweet since Strength of Earth is really great and Flametongue becomes nice starting around level 40 and is quite nice by 60, and that talent enhances both of those totems. Plus if you're duoing a lot, the totems may help out your buddy as well, though maybe you guys kill too fast to stay in any one place to get lots of use out of them? I'm not sure how your mana is around these levels as they didn't have Water Shield til level 64 or something when I leveled my Shaman! Dropping your totems a lot is a big drain though, so I'm expecting it's not terribly feasible. Then again you get Shamantic Rage soon, and that is a huge help on mana...

Finish off in the Elemental tree.

Hit won't be a bad thing to get, but I wouldn't worry much about it. I'm not sure you even really have the option to be stack a lot of it while leveling up. You get 6% hit through talents, which I think is the cap for everything except white hits assuming you're fighting equal level mobs. If you are fighting mobs of equal level, and if I'm right on that, hit will only help you do more white damage. If you're going after anything above your level, having an item or two with hit will probably be a good thing... but ultimately you want your agility! Might be some agi/int/AP sort of gear initially intended for Hunters once you hit Burning Crusade content which will be ideal.

Ok, so I finally picked up WotLK and reactivated my account. Made a BE Death Knight on Argent Dawn where Taly plays. I'm about done with the DK introductory stuff, which I like pretty well.

I'm having one technical issue though: On both EQ2 and WoW the game will very occasionally switch from full-screen to a full-sized window with the task bar at the bottom. That's annyoing but not a problem in and of itself - with EQ2. With WoW, attempting to window out doesn't allow me to re-maximize the game. When I do the entire screen becomes unclickable as if I had re-maximized it, but the graphics never actually reappear. Opening the task manager then reveals that the program is not responding.

The problem of course is that not only can I not window out to check websites, but on those rare occasions (very 2-3 hours I would guess) when it windows itself I have to shut down the game with the task manager and then strt it anew. Any suggestions?
