Re: AoD - I too prefer the theatrical ending. Never cared for the original flavor. Probably doesn't help that I don't like post-apocalyptic-y things much anyway.

As a teenager, watching the series on the air, the ending of Quantum Leap totally brought me to tears. I'm not ashamed! Totally amazing ending.

I vote for the Manchurian Candidate (original...never seen the remake).

Better than good. It crushes me every time.

Saving Private Ryan and Ladder 49 get my vote, as does The Last Samurai.

Return of the Jedi was awesome before they dicked it all up, too. Not just the final scene, but the entire sequence from "Move the fleet away from the Death Star!" on.. the rebels won, but they still needed to GTFO. Every time I watch it I still find myself thinking "Give it gas, Calrissian, give it gas!"

Speaking of which I also love it for it's giving a couple of minor characters like Lando and Wedge a major moment of glory.

Another one that gets me is Memphis Belle. Not so much because of the ending itself but because my Grandpa was a bomber pilot in the war. He brought back a few shot-up planes and I know it's not easy to get them back. On one mission a cannon shell from a German fighter exploded behind his head. The armor plate in the seat protected him, but his hearing was never the same. On another he came back without a copilot - not with a dead copilot, with the copilot and his seat completely missing from the airplane.
