So I got this message on facebook saying

"Dear (Taamar),
You don't know me. I met Eric your ex-husband in Illinois. Going on gut feelings, I did an investigation. He had told me a fake last name and some other untruths. I question now if he is really divorced. If you are married, I'm truly sorry. I would appreciate it if you would contact me to answer some of those questions. Thank you for your time."

OK, so Eric and I divorced a long time ago, but he's remarried and has been going on business trips to Illinios for a couple of month... and apparently he decided to get s little something while he was there. Which is pretty much why I left him. I let this woman know he was a lying cheating *******, that he was married (he claimed his current wife had too many mental issues, so he left her) and that he'll call her crazy if she confronts him about it. We chatted a bit, and she broke things off with him. The question is: should I tell Eric's current wife? She and I have always gotten along, and she once asked me how she could find out if Eric was cheating. I said "if he's breathing" and she laughed and told me he's changed since he found Jesus.

After 12 years. how does his drama still find me?

Just so you know, I absolutely adore your thread title. I don't know why.

I would tell her. I would want to be told. Most women, if you tell them will either believe you and thank you for sparing them heartache and herpes, or they will take it out on you and call you a lying meddling ho....sounds like she would fall into the former category.

And even if she does call me a lying meddling ho would that matter? I'll have done my part.

We should totally have a t-shirt printed with that, BTW.

Just send her an e-mail that says . . . if he's breathing . . .

Or just send her a link to this thread.

I would want to know, but that doesn't mean she really does. You know her better than any quasi-anonymous person on the glade. Is she really going to believe you or is it just going to stir up strife. By all means don't lie for him, but maybe you shouldn't answer questions that haven't been asked.

Give the Illinois cookie the current's phone number. You should probably stay out of that part.

Hey that's actually a really good idea.

My conversation with this other woman indicates that they had unprotected sex. He may not be with HER anymore, but if he's screwing around elsewhere that puts his wife at risk for STDs. If she contracted something because I didn't tell her to protect herself I'd feel responsible.

Obviously you're not a douchebag and have no experience with their douchebag ways.

And before anyone asks about the t-shirt... I'll make one for those who have dealt with bad exes of the female variety as well. They'll say 'my ex wife is a psycho hose-beast'.

As I remember, you kind of like the new wife. Be a friend and warn her.

I told her. She's devastated, but said she knew, and kept asking him about it, and he lied and accused her of not trusting him, and of being focused on it because SHE was cheating. She thanks me for telling her, and is now having a drink (he's out of town).

I think I retract the douchebag label, out of respect for all the douchebags who don't deserve to be associated with him.

I'm glad you told her. Painful as it was, she is much better off knowing.
You've earned a drink yourself...celebrate that you don't have to put up with that crap anymore and you have a non-douchebag to spend your life with! :)

Damn, he is such a stereotype. I've gotten a soggy shoulder listening to this story so many times, so many identical details.

Then they move on to another probably equally bad boy and leave me drying the shoulder off. What is it with you women?

In my experience, no good deed goes unpunished. I hope you don't find reason to agree with me....

I hope all goes well. I wouldn't have told her. Yes, I'd want to be told if I were her but if I were YOU I wouldn't want to get involved.

Hopefully this doesn't become a long-term pain in the *** for you.

I'm on the side of truth, justice and right... what could possibly go wrong?

Yeah, I actually found out on May 29th and spent 3 weeks wrestling with my conscience. In the end I came to the conclusion that not doing the right thing because I feared the consequences would damage my integrity, if only in my own mind.

I suppose if your conscience is going to bother you, then you have to do what you have to do. If I were you I'd have simply e-mailed back the original person and said "I'm not married, and whatever is going on now, I don't want to know."
