Not to you, as a viewer.

Here's an upside for you, as a viewer. Those factors encourage people to post content for you to watch.

Another downside. People who post videos just for the revenue aren't in it for the love, man. That contributes to a lower quality video.

Anything that reduces functionality and makes something more of a pain in the *** to use is a downside.

Not from me. For the most part, if embedding is disabled, I won't go look unless its something important. I'll say "Meh" and forget about it. And following channels? People do that?

I don't, but apparently other people do. Much like I don't twit, but there's this big huge site and community that indicates that I'm not the norm.

The people who follow channels are probably the same people who comment on YouTube and post video replies to other peoples' videos. People who don't have Glades consider that a community.

I 'subscribe' to several channels. Mostly luthiers or guitar players I like who post interesting stuff from time to time.

I also follow a couple of twitter feeds that interest me (mostly baseball related), but i've never sent a tweet, or posted anything of substance on youtube.

I'm subscribed to a lot of channels. Like...a mega lot. 50% are gaming related. 30ish% are Slenderman related.

Hell I subscribe to Mantic59's Shave Tutor channel.

I would have probably sliced my face clean off had it not been for him.

I don't mean to be harsh, but this is a ridiculous statement.

Here, I'll give you an example using someone I'm subscribed to.

Here is one of freddiew's videos:

Now, I enjoy his videos. I'm sure he loves making these videos. But there is no freaking way he could produce this sort of content (unless he was independently wealthy) if he wasn't getting paid. It takes money for cameras and equipment, to rent set locations, feed volunteers, pay people you have to, etc. Then the amount of time you have to spend to come up with a video like that every week? How do you hold a job to pay your bills?

Youtube realized it pays to pay people to produce content for Youtube. It provides talented people the money they need to make more content which then makes Youtube more money.

Oh, and by the way, why is it that whenever I embed a video it has the option to expand to full screen, but it usually doesn't for videos anyone else embeds? Am I doing something different, or is it one of those things that only the person that posts can use the fullscreen thing.

All I'm doing is this...
{youtube}mzhVAJOHgQo{/youtube}

only with the brackets instead of the braces of course.

Edit: where the letters and numbers in the tag is the youtube video id from the link.

There's the old youtube tag, and the new yt tag. They had slightly different html in the backend which caused different options to appear in the embedded videos. I updated both to use version 3 of the youtube embedded player, so it should be consistent now, and have more options.

Guy holds up a sign saying "Blind guitar player, bring me up". So Bono did.

Youtube can be quite the source of income. Especially for gamers of all types. Several of them are earning over 6 figures a year playing video games & then uploading their content with commentary. For me personally its been a fun way to essentially pay the costs for my gaming hobby plus provide some extra for other expenses.

Mus's post in the random picture thread reminded me of this.

Very NSFW language:

Shelgeyr, that is epic. I linked that to my son. :P

And here is a little British "pornography".
