Happy Tau Day (because Pi is wrong).

If that doesn't convince you, then you'll be sold by having it explained to you by the enchanting Vi Hart.

Your thread title is deceptive, brother. This holiday has nothing to do with The Greater Good. I am disappointed.

Funny, remembering Lex's comments on Pi Day, I saw exactly what I was expecting.

I am not opposed to using such a thing, except that tau is fairly well defined as a dummy variable. They would need to pick a different Greek letter. Moreover, having to multiply pi by two serves as a good barrier to entry for most of the fields where a firm grasp of the relationship between a circle's radius, diameter, and circumference are importance. You must be this tall to ride the ride, as it were.

Replacing pi with its double would also make the arc length and circle area formulas cumbersome.
