TNG and DS9 are the only ones I watched a decent amount of. I liked that DS9 had a larger plot happening. I haven't seen it in years, so I dunno how much I would enjoy it now. Trek isn't really my taste sci-fi show and I'm pretty sure they're all dirty commies.

We should revive the dream crew thread. Gonna pick Picard and Enterprise. It's possible I need to watch more voyager.

Picard strikes me as the most competent captian. Kirk's a great character, but I dont think I'd wantto put my life in his hands.

I like enterprise cause I think it has the best overall crew and I like the larger objective style of storytelling, as opposed to the episodic fly around and encounter stuff.

I think he means Enterprise the series, not the ship ;)

Enterprise is my favorite show, but I greatly prefer Sisko over Archer. Voyager comes out on top when averaging the categories because it's my 2nd pick for both.

Farsky - way to go, voting movies in a TV series poll :P

It's the only thing bearing the Star Trek name that I can stand. But I really, really liked it. :)

Q: "You hit me! Picard never hit me."
Sisko: "I'm not Picard."

That right there should be reason enough to vote Sisko. That and the fact he was not the perfect poster child of moral inflexibility. See how he dealt with Eddington, or, even better, watch "In the Pale Moonlight" (greatest Star Trek episode ever... EVER).

If you were to ask me in 1995 which captain and series I preferred, it would have been a resounding, hands-down Picard/TNG. But the more I watched DS9, the more I realized just how superior it was to TNG, at least in my eyes. The characters seemed to have more depth than anyone in TNG. The characters had arcs. And sometimes, at the end of the day, all of their problems weren't wrapped up into happy little rainbows to be forgotten the next week.

It would be interesting to see DS9 without any of the restrictions placed on Ronald D. Moore. DS9 had way too many "standalone" episodes for his taste, but it was a restriction forced upon him. In fact, the whole Dominion story arc was pitched and the response back was "Sounds great. Don't make it more than three episodes." Which, fortunately, he fought against and won.

The other restriction forced upon him was that he had to end the series at Season 7. There was some hard and fast rule that no trek series can go beyond 7 seasons, and it frustrated him as he had a lot more stories to tell.

Ultimately he was pushed away from Trek. And went off to do his own thing without as many limitations. A little known show called Battlestar Galactica (the new series).

As much as I like Patrick Stewart, Picard didn't become the type of Captain I liked until he went all Captain Ahab in First Contact. Unlike Kirk, Sisko, and Janeway, Picard was highly unlikely to fire torpedos.

DS9 was my favorite series of the bunch, by far. Although Sisko suffered from Avery Brooks being an insufferably bad actor. Janeway met the mid range--Kate Mulgrew is a very good actress (though not nearly as good as Stewart), playing a character willing to fire the ship's weaponry (even if written inconsistently...Voyager's writing was rather hit and miss.) DS9 had a better supporting cast, and far better writing, so it easily wins my favorite series, but Benjamin Sisko? Even Shatner was a better actor than Brooks.

really? I never had a problem with Sisko's acting. Patricia Tallman of B5 tops the list of bad actors in my book. Everyone has their own scenery munching bad scenes somewhere in there but I dont recall sisko's being any worse than anyone else.

Sisko had exactly two inflections and emotional styles of saying any sentence, through the entire series. Tommy Lee Jones has greater range.

But you're right, that he wasn't outright BAD like most of the B5 cast. My issues with Brooks are in his lack of range, not the fact that every word he said made me want to plug my ears and scream. The problem with brooks was after his first few sentences, you realized every single thing he ever said sounded the same.

DS9 was good, but there was something that annoyed me about it. I think Taly nailed it with the bad acting, but it was also darker than TNG. I think TNG was my overall favorite, especially the early episodes. The later seasons became difficult to watch. I couldn't stand Ryker's character after a while, and Wesley and Dr. Crusher made me want to punch my TV.

I watched TOS when it originally aired, and at the time, it was pretty awesome, although it didn't age well for me, and Shatner's over the topness kinda got old as I got old enough to recognize that kind of thing.

My favorite characters are probably Spock, Dax, Data and Geordi....

The darker side of trek is what I liked about DS9. But DS9 polarizes fans in this way. "In the Pale Moonlight" being one of the most polarizing factors of the entire franchise. Basically the Federation condones some pretty shady stuff, even though it's for the good of the entire quadrant.

The darker aspect is why I preferred it.

I have some agreement with you. My ideal crew: Janeway (or Picard, if taken after First Contact when he's already grown a pair), Spock (first officer), Dax (Science/Comm), Data (navigation), Scott (engineer), Worf (tactical), Odo (Security), Bashear (Medical). I'd pick Quark over Guinan if there's a bar on the ship.

I've never watched Babylon 5, although it's next up in my Netflix queue after I finish the final season of Battlestar Galactica =)

consider yourself warned: several of the actors are AWFUL.

The story and some of the dialoge are epic though.

I never really thought any of the actors were awful. Not fabulous, sure, but not as bad as awful.

Rewatch the scene where they try Lyta vs. a Shadow Ship for the first time and tell me that again.
