Wasn't aware there was one. Should I be (watching, that is)?

Speaking of beloved cartoons I used to watch apparently getting rebooted, Thundercats is getting a new cartoon reboot. I know there was talk about a movie(and I'm pretty sure we've discussed that here before) but I wasn't aware of the new cartoon until recently.

Nice! I can't wait to see how truly awful it is. Maybe Cheetara will still be hot.

There was a 9 minute preview of Thundercats up yesterday but it's gone now. It actually seemed like it might be good. Haven't seen the new Voltron, but the animation looks atrocious.

The animation style does differ from the original. What this series seems to have going for it so far is a deeper exploration of the capabilities of Voltron and the constituent lions. Get *** kicked in lions - form Voltron - get *** kicked in Voltron - form Blazing Sword - Win - is no longer the set theme. Granted, it's only five episodes in (or one premier movie and two episodes, depending on your count).

A less formulaic Voltron could be interesting. I see Nickelodeon's website has them streaming, so I guess I'll check it out later.

If the new Thundercats does what they did in the comics (slave twins)...

I may have to check this out.

Speaking of oldschool Voltron, it's on Netflix streaming now too. And I admit to watching it. What can I say? This was the most awesome cartoon of my youth. 1,000 foot robots was something I'd never seen before as a 7 year old.

(8:10:40 PM) Corolinth: The **** are you talking about? I've watched the first fifteen episodes back to back, and they're as awesome as ever.

Put me down in the "Voltron has not aged well" category. Ditto for Thunder Cats.

No cartoon from my childhood has aged well. But my brain at least accepts Voltron more than most. Thundercats..... I made a vow 10 years ago to never watch it again as it was destroying my happy memories.

Phe and I watched the first episode of the original He-Man a week ago...ouch.

There are cartoons that age incredibly well, so well in fact that they throw into harsh contrast the crapitude of much of the kid's animation today. Batman: The Animated Series (all of the Timmverse stuff, actually), Animaniacs, Tiny Toon Adventures, The Tick...

I think you've stumbled onto the difference that good writing makes. :)

Also, angry beavers aged pretty well (and it's on netflix streaming now!) P.S. Don't forget about Invader Zim either.

None of those are from my childhood. By the time 90s hit, cartoons began to change a bit and started to revolve more around actual witty comedy or story.

The 70s and 80s (mostly 80s) cartoons were 30 minute toy commercials. Nothing more.

I grew up with crap like He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Inspector Gadget. I also had The Real Ghostbusters, which was (and still is) awesome. Then there was the segue into early '90s stuff, a lot of which was actually good. :)

Ok I am digging the Voltron Force cartoon, and I am not one to really watch cartoons anymore (even the smart, cool ones). The fact that it's not a remake, but kind of a sequel (it's set 5 - 7 years after the original cartoon) made a huge difference for me.
