They're dropping the combined dvd and streaming plan. DVDs will cost $7.99/mo and streaming is $7.99/mo. If you want to be able to stream and receive DVDs, you'll need to get both plans, for $15.98/mo.

It's really a reasonable amount, guys, considering the content you're provided (hell, instant alone is insane). You're complaining about a month of MMORPG subscription, less than seeing a single film in a theater, renting three movies in a brick and mortar. And that's if you go for both instant and disc services.

Price hikes are never desirable, but this isn't pitchfork-worthy.

I can see single films in the theater for $4.75; I don't know what you're talking about, 'Skee.

But, yes, $15 isn't *unreasonable.* It is, however, a 50% price hike for existing customers with the most common plan. And that's hard to swallow when seen from that light. It was a bad move, PR-wise, at the very least, no matter how they feel about the value of their offerings.

I'm still confused as to how anyone could possibly look at $15/mo. for the unlimited content available and thinking "Hrr, that's too much money," then possibly topping it off with a "harumph!"

PS - if you're ***** now, just wait.

Netflix in Canada has been $7.99 for only the "instant streaming" feature since it started, and I think that this is well worth it. However, the only reason I have it is because it's such a good deal. If costs do go up as much as is being suggested, I simply stop my subscription and continue using torrents for all of my television. Why not? We got rid of satellite/cable a long time ago, and torrents already fill most of our television watching. Right now, Netflix simply fills the niche that used to be filled by "channel-surfing," the ability to look around for something random to watch. This is not a function that we need.

Taamar and I are on the "2 out at a time" plan at $14.99/mo. Come September, the cost will jump to $19.98/mo to maintain both DVD and streaming access. It's not an unreasonable hike, and it's a far better deal than we were getting from Blockbuster Online after their string of price hikes finally drove us away, but it's no fun watching prices go up.

And as for the "unlimited content", FarSky ... I'd be a lot happier with it if it were quite a bit more comprehensive. I'd ditch the DVD subscription entirely but for the fact that an awful lot of stuff I want to watch simply isn't streaming.

I watched every episode and movie from the Stargate franchise, and every TV show and movie from the Battlestar Galactica franchise (including the old stuff)... among many many other shows and movies...

I think paying $15mo for this is like stealing...

You guys actually use DVD's? I ended up canceling the disc part and now I'm saving $2 a month.

As I mentioned, there's a lot of stuff that just isn't streaming. So yeah, I use DVDs, but only because I don't have much choice.

Virtually everything we watch is on Instant, but I keep the one-disc plan anyway, for the occasional.

I do not know that it is that bad...
It is their choice to raise the prices, I just do not know if I am willing to pay that much for the service. For how much we actually watch the DVDs they send... Redbox would be cheaper, when used in conjunction with Amazon Prime streaming.

I cant get 90% of the anime I want to watch subtitled via streaming, which is why I kept the DVD side

or at least, couldnt... Ive watched most of what they have >_>

As a percentage it seems like a lot of money, especially when they aren't offering anything "new" to offset the increase. People will likely drop their CD plans if costs is a concern. This is probably what netflix wants. In my opinion/situation comparing the streaming only with the Hulu plus, Hulu plus seems like the winner because of all the near first run content they have available. If things happen to the first run content then the paradigm shifts of course. Not being available on mobile devices isn't an issue as I have a clunker box hooked up to my TV

In all honesty, while their prices aren't outlandish, it does seem like it's purposeful to get people to cancel their disc plan.

As well, I'm pretty worried about the studios "re-negotiating" their Netflix content. They have proven, time and time again, that they are technophobic and would rather destroy technology than embrace it. It sounds like Netflix only got the sweet deal because they dismissed the idea entirely "Yeah, sure, you can stream our titles, good luck with the 5 people who can watch them. Wait a second, you have how many viewers?" Just like bandwidth caps, it's likely to be a step backwards as they all set up their own streaming site to get a bigger piece of the cash or fragmentation as they sell their libraries only to the highest bidder.

If they were quicker with their streaming content of newer shows/movies, I wouldn't give it a thought. But I get the disks because most of the stuff that I enjoy isn't on streaming yet.

Which precisely why I would cancel the whole shebang as opposed to just cancelling the disc portion.

I think Sony pulled their entire library from them (heard the tail end of a news article about it) --other services are now getting competitive and netflix is losing leverage with the movie studios --they may need the added revenue.

We watch a LOT of streaming content. We have no satellite or cable service, so most of the kids TV watching comes from Netflix. And we use the 1-Disc out option as a filler for the shows that aren't available for streaming. It's really the perfect plan and price point at $9.99. We'll probably just drop the DVD portion now, and stick with streaming. Then I'll just have to buy or download the movies that I want to watch but aren't available for instant watch.

Don't forget about Amazon's service. If you are already a prime member, there is quite a bit of free content (not as much as Netflix).
