Yeah, quite a few people on the official forums are going ape ****.

I play it on the 360, so I'm used to horrible hosts. Sucks for the PC gamers.

And then the news post demonstrates that he's mocking the PC players. >_>

He's not mocking them. He's pointing out to them that they've become relatively irrelevant to game publishing. Knowing Tycho's fondness for the PC, I'm sure he sympathizes a lot with their plight, as the comic suggests.

That said, the comic also suggests that he thinks people are blowing the significance of this event out of proportion, and mocking the severity and gravitas with which people are responding.

If you care at all about the single player story lines and surprises, start avoiding any of the major MW2 sites.

Leaked copies are leading to tons of video's popping up.

Well, Microsoft & IW has done something that actually really pisses me off. They're yanking out private party chat when playing multiplayer.

Normally my friends & I will pile into a party so that we don't have to listen to the general bullshit that comes with playing multiplayer games. Especially of the FPS variety.

Not cool. :(

Quote:
MS forcefully removes private chat from upcoming titles

Do you like to use the party chat option on your Xbox 360? Well, if you do, you may soon find yourself being forced out of using that option. Microsoft appears to be offering developers the option to negate the private chat option the Xbox 360 offers. Currently, players have the option of forming a private chat with players, but that will soon change.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will force players to decide whether or not they’ll play the game and join the game chat, or choose to stay in a private chat and not play in the multiplayer game. With titles like Gears of War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: World at War, and many other online based multiplayer titles, the private chat feature became a way of telling other players of enemy locations after being killed.

Such a feature shouldn’t detract from the overall online experience much, but there will surely be some gamers who won’t like the type of feature being implemented. With some gamers only using the private chat to talk to friends while playing different games, this will likely pose a problem for them.

I don't understand the point of doing that. Aren't teams separate anyway during the game(I honestly don't know because every time I join a team based multiplayer game on live, I'm always playing with my friends and we are in a party)? Doesn't take that out a lot of the strategy? If both teams can hear each other talking, why have voice chat at all? For trash talking and hearing the word "nigger" every other word spoken?

Basically all I can think of this cutting down on, is in one game type, Search & Destroy.

Normally, if you're in a lobby chat, the teams are separated.

In S&D, you get 1 life per round, but there's six rounds per game. When you die in S&D, you can no longer communicate with your team, but you can spectate them. If you're in a party, you can still communicate with them to tell them various bits of info.

I almost never play S&D myself, but removing the ability to have a private party chat when playing say, death match, irritates me a great deal.

Looks like I'll be muting everyone in the lobby but those I'm playing with.

In general, in team-based games, the enemy can't hear you while you're alive (assuming no party/private chats).

When you're dead, everyone dead can hear you, but the living can't.

At least, to my knowledge.

(Our habit is to mute everyone who talks anyway.)

Yeah, this is basically to force you to communicate with the team you're playing with, instead of just with your friends in party. That's really too bad that they're doing that, it was one of the features that made halo 3 bearable. Being in open halo3 chat is like hanging out at a clan rally filled with gay bashing 12 year olds.

Blurb about this on destructoid:

Destructoid wrote:

If you were looking forward to a big Xbox Live party when Modern Warfare 2 launches, it seems that Skype may be your best friend. It's being reported that Infinity Ward's FPS sequel will block Xbox 360 parties, meaning that you and your friends will have to be on the same team in order to chat.

The reason behind this is obvious. It's to avoid cheating. Players on both sides won't be able to team up in a party and work together to bring one of the teams down. It's not been confirmed whether this is mandatory across all multiplayer sessions, or an option that can be toggled for certain game types.

Hopefully it's just an option. Party Chat makes for some highly memorable Destructoid community multiplayer matches, especially when you have both teams in the same chat.

While trying to walk a fine line between avoiding single player spoilers, but looking for some of the multiplayer footage people are putting out, I'm getting even more excited for the game.

Some of the multiplayer stuff floating around is fantastic.

The party thing has dropped my excitement. I won't be picking this game up this year, that's for sure.

I found a couple of ways to work around it based on people's findings from the leaked games.

Apparently it doesn't effect a private chat. Also if you set your voice communications to only work with people on your friends list, that will also do the trick for when a group of people pile into a lobby together.

Definitely annoying though.

Spoiler:
Ok, the airport mission gave me one of the weirdest feelings I've ever had playing a video game. Pretty intense in a not entirely positive way.

I'm enjoying the multiplayer a good bit. The maps are much larger then the first one.

I just beat the game during my second sitting. 5 hours, 2 minutes total playing on Regular.

Quite epic.

Yes, well, the Spec-Ops mode will probably take even longer and the multiplayer is really an indefinite amount of time... Don't be perturbed by the 5 hour campaign - it's five quality hours. Better than the first campaign, if I say so myself.

Oh, and there's definitely a part three.

But the multiplayer is my least favorite aspect of these types of games, because unlike so many [expletive deleted][people] I don't have time to sit around and get any good at it.

Since I can't play with somebody sitting in the same room as me, it's a garbage option.

Hence, I rent.
