Looks like there was also a linked shooting at a youth center by a man dressed as a police officer who was captured, so perhaps this will unravel quickly.

On a side note reading the comments on both CNN and Fox on this, it is amusing to watch who is being blamed. Fox viewers where predictably blaming muslims, while on CNN (for the page or three I read) it was split too home grown extremists, Jews out to make muslims look bad, and muslims but where pushed by a xenophobic west.

Indeed,

The camp outing where the gunman attacked was for children of members of the "Ruling Party", and police are saying the gunman is linked to the bombing in Oslo.

One witness claiming at least 20 are dead in the shooting.

It's over 80 dead in the shooting now, making this one probably the deadliest of all time.

It's going to be VERY interesting to see how this affects the Norwegian criminal justice system, and if the current laws are upheld. Note that this shooting occurred at a youth camp. (the victims were 15-16 years old) The shooter was captured alive and is only 32 years old. Currently the maximum sentence for any crime in Norway is 21 years and all sentences are served concurrently. The way the law currently stands this guy could get out in 14 years (only 66% of prison sentences in Norway get served in prison) for the mass murder of children. From wikipedia:

well it looks like this PoS's motivation was too wake up Norwegians to the dangers of Muslims...by killing Norwegians....

Disclaimer: I for one immediately, gut reaction, blamed muslims when the story first hit, so I will admit I was wrong on this one.

That's not true. They have a stipulation for crazy. If the punishment is set up a certain way, you are reviewed by a council to determine if you are safe to be released. He could potentially be in for life, depending on the outcomes of these annual reviews.
