Not neccessarily a political debate only forum, just for things that may end up more controversial than is appropriate for the main forum.

Major accepted rules or personal ones? While the two overlap I have them prioritized from personal experience.

Just a random one- never make them the only thing in your life. Another is- invite them to something you are doing. Do not create the event around them.

When something happens that is in no way, shape or form, your fault, step up and take the blame anyway. Dang it Honey, I should have taken the day off and taken you over to visit your mother so you wouldn't have been alone when you walked in and found her dead of a heart attack in the middle of her front room.

Always buy any clothing types gift a size or two too small and leave the receipt where she can find it.

Take out the trash.

Clean up after yourself, and the kid too. Just because.

Learn how to do the laundry, and just do it without making a fuss.

Have Mus come over and fix a romantic dinner while you keep her otherwise occupied, then send hm off to a movie with Stampy while you eat, etc.

Tell her you love her, often enough she hears it regularly but not so often it becomes rote.

Bring her flowers, just because.

Treat her to a spa thing on her birthday, your anniversary, or some other reality based anniversary.

Ask her opinion on stuff, and listen to what she says.

Basically, treat her like a person you love and admire, someone that means a whole lot more to you than she thinks she does. Do things that she enjoys, even if you don't. Get romantic once in a while to let her know you still find her attractive, and not just when she's feeling down.

Thank you Michael. While there are woman out there who would take this for granted and use it to walk over you. There are women out there who appreciate the effort you're making and see it for the generous gesture it is.

If you didn’t live so far away, I could give you a big hug and a lovingly baked dinner right now.

It recognizes that she has been through a traumatic experience and that you wish you could have been there to help her deal with it. The utter ridiculousness of the statement is meant to break tension and make the other person stop and think when they are most likely being emotionally distraught and vulnerable.

You need to see to your partners needs in times of high stress and especially personal tragedy. If you can't be there for them and help them work through the situation with a little off the wall craziness, you aren't being very supportive. Suck it up and deal with it is tough love, not appropriate for moments when your support is much more needed.

Depends on the people involved and their levels of communication. If you can't offer a sincere level of support that borders on crazy when things are at their toughest you aren't being much of a partner.

And thank you Lydiaa, when we eventually meet I'll take you up on that hug, dinner is optional but I would be very happy to share a meal or two with you.

Sometimes, people just want someone to offer to be responsible for bad **** happening so they don't have to blame themselves. It doesn't cost a dime, it's non-fattening, and won't contribute to global warming. Given time, they'll know it wasn't your fault and they'll appreciate the support.

Back on topic, my number one rule is, women turn into their mothers. Check out mom, if you don't think you could stand being around them for any length of time, bail.
