It wasn't the listener who had to apply what was said to Health Insurance instead of Disability Insurance (an omission filled in by implication), but rather he explicitly stated that her health insurance would not cover her due to a pre-existing condition- an explicit untruth.

I thought he just said "insurance" not "health insurance"? Either way, though, my view of his story isn't dependent on that level of detailed scrutiny. Bottom line for me is that (a) his mother was very sick, (b) she was worried she couldn't afford to pay certain medical expenses (i.e. the deductible under her primary health insurance) as well as various living expenses because she was too sick to work, (c) her employer offered a supplemental disability insurance plan that would have covered those expenses, and (d) she was denied coverage by that plan because her illness was deemed pre-existing. The fact that the insurance plan under which she was denied coverage was a "disability" plan rather than a straight "health" plan just strikes me as a tangential detail that really has nothing to do with the point of the story - namely, that Obama was personally familiar with the stress and fear experienced by people in that kind of situation. Looking beyond that basic point and nit-picking the disability insurance vs health insurance detail seems to me like an example of people reaching for any possible hook to call him a liar and further justify their already-low opinion of him.

Like Nitefox said, "I knew what I was getting at. I wasn't trying to fool anyone. I was wrong in how I said things but it doesn't really change the meaning of the point I was stating." ;)

Anway, I guess I'm just going to have to agree to disagree with the Glade consensus on this one.

Did someone say "anal?" Oh, you're still talking about the debt deal...

Right...because I was trying to fool people into wanting a huge controversial law that will affect us for years to come in who knows how many horrible ways by using my dead mother as a prop.

You've turned me Aizle! I agree, your boy has tons of character!

Next time you try to point out how those evil conservatives and republicans seem to stick together on things more than your liberal bedfellows, just don't.

The premise behind that alleged strategy doesn't strike you as so obviously flawed that it couldn't possibly have been what Obama was thinking? I mean, for what you say to be true, he would have had to conclude that (a) there was sizable number of people who could be swayed toward supporting Obamacare based on the story about his mom being denied coverage, but (b) those same people would not be swayed if they knew she had been denied coverage under a supplemental disability plan rather than a primary health plan. Seriously, that doesn't seem ludicrous on its face to you?

When considering politicians, one with an agenda is more easily imagined than one without.

Ill take logic over emotional whims every single time. Emotions get you into trouble, logic gets you out.

So, you'll harden your heart to love? Abandon the ideals of freedom?

Give up your devotion to your favorite sports team?

What makes life worth living, Rynar? ... and without emotion, would you care if you were alive or not?

Nope. I firmly believe Obama would say whatever he needed to get what he wanted. And their are millions of people who will believe pretty much anything he says and another faction will spin it so that they can feel good about it(as you and Aizle have so thoroughly proved). If you weren't so in the tank for him, you would see what is so obvious to others. You're blind RD.

Resignation and Abandonment are not exactly synonymous.

That's fine, but the point of my last post is that even if you're right and he is so completely amoral that he'd lie about the circumstances of his mother's death to advance his political agenda, it wouldn't make sense for him to bother doing so in this case. Anyone who would be swayed by the story as he told it would almost certainly be equally swayed even if he noted that she was trying to get coverage under a disability plan rather than a health plan. There was nothing to be gained by lying about that detail.

Before the discourse can move forward in a meaningful manner, we all have to accept a basic fundamental truth about Barack Obama. He does not care for the American people, he does not want hope and change, and despite his socialist ideology he really doesn't want to usher in a Communist takeover of the United States.

Barack Obama simply wanted to be in history books as the first black President of the United States, just like Hillary Clinton simply wanted to be the first female President of the United States. He has no other plan or goal, and he never did. He never spared a single thought for what he would do once he was elected, and that did not change once he took office. He has continued to campaign for office since then, because his handlers thought it would look better in the history books if he were to win a second term.

Fifty years from now, that's all anyone will care about. The economic woes of today will be nothing more than a footnote in a middle school social studies book. The military quagmires we're in will be forgotten like Vietnam and Korea. The only thing anyone will remember about him is that he was the first black president, and he won two terms.

Love is earnd, and can be unearned. While we cannot seperate ourselves from our human emotions we should never let them dictate our decisions for us. We must think our way through problems if we wish to find workable solutions, rather than blindly feel our way through.

You're equivocating. Without emotions there is no love, no friendships, no flirting, nothing to like, and so on. Tempering emotions with logic is not anything like choosing one over the other.

So which do you allow to lead you around?

You are already lost. Without logic you have no way to get there.

It's all about the journey, not the destination.

The journey is nothing but a continuous series of more local destinations.

Your happiness in nothing but luck. You're fortunate that your rudderless existance has brought you into calm waters, and you'll have no one but yourself to blame when it brings you back out. Once it does, you'll have no idea how to find them again.

It is logic that gave us control of fire.
It is logic that gave us the wheel.
It is logic that gives us the water pump, the computer, the automobile, the internet, our medicine, our roads, the toilet, the manner in which every single item you purchase was manufactured and delivered to you.

Logic belongs in discussion, emotion belongs to those to which emotion is best served - entertainment.
