Yeah, I saw that.

I'm sympathetic to the argument that they have to defend it or lose the IP. I'm not entirely sure whether they've got a case; but that's for the judge to decide, and it's close enough to having one, at the very least, that I think they'd be risking their own trademark if they didn't press the issue.

I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that Notch should have known better. As I said, it's on a hazy line between "Notch, you're a dumbass, you're clearly in the wrong" and "Well, whoops. Maybe you should try again."

Given that he's still pretty early in the project, it seems like "try again" is probably the best course of action. I can't imagine that "Scrolls" has enough intrinsic value or is fundamentally artistically defining enough to fight for it, nor do I expect that it'll be a cheap payoff to get permission to keep it if he concedes the trademark.

I guess if I had a trademark on the words "dark," "lost," "alliance," "dungeon," or rise," I'd be a billionaire. :D

"Apple" would be a good word to have a trademark on.

I think they're being douche-nozzles. I don't think Mojang is to blame.

Maybe Bethesda is just mad someone came out with uglier character models than theirs.

Oh snap! Their faces are ugly as sin. I really had to teak my guy in FO:NV. Not that I ever had to look at him past the character creation... Don't know why they bother really.

How has there been 3 million copies of Minecraft "sold"? Isn't it a free game?

No, it was never free. It was just very cheap. It was like 10 bucks for the alpha version. I've gotten $10 worth of mining and creeper dodging. Hopefully Notch will keep making stuff without breaking things too much.

Beth should just make Eldercraft the Minning Wind and get sued by Blizzard for using "craft."

Don't give Blizzard any ideas, or they'll hop on the legal bandwagon and sue Minecraft over something this stupid. "People will think we've released a mining RTS!" they'll say.

This, I replayed it prolly 16 times without mods. I loved that everything I did added to my character, talking, shopping, running, jumping, slashing, shooting, everything in that game made your character different. It was infinitely customizable.

The system was neat in theory, I thought, but it just didn't execute/translate well. My problem with it was that you would level up if you did something you were good at, but leveling prematurely made you suck, since monsters leveled up with you. They got better at murdering me at a faster pace than I got better at murdering them. Having skills like melee as level-up abilities prevented one from improving the necessary stats upon a level-up, and so it was crippling to specialize in combat. I thought that was dumb, and so the mods were necessary for me.

Skyrim has adopted more the fallout 3 model. Monsters don't necessarily level up with you. Some areas always have high level stuff, some areas always have low level stuff.

Personally, I prefer that model. I enjoy there being areas that are terrifying, that you realize quickly after wandering into them that you've made a horrible, horrible mistake. When everything is your level, you're really only worried about swarms.

Deathclaws remained absolutely frightening, even at level 30 unless you use the cheese steath suit. In which case...nothing was even a challenge. So yeah...it's nice to know that Skyrim will follow Fallout 3 in that regard more than it will follow Oblivion.

Eh. By the time I got to 30, I had sufficiently large Screw You Guns that Deathclaws had no chance to actually harm me.

Eh. Laser Rifle, fully modded is lethal enough few things pose a challenge especially with Max power ammo.

Heh. Yeah I saw this the other day. It's really not saying that the game is short. Far from it. This is a dev who specializes in such speed runs.

In fact, the top times to completely finish Oblivion is 14 minutes and Morrowind around 20 minutes if I recall correctly. That Skyrim takes over 2 hours to speed run, to me, says a lot.

It will be completed in less than 20 minutes. Both the Morrowind and Oblivion record speed runs use glitches that basically warp you to the end of the game's story. 2 hours seems about right if you know where you are going and run past everything you don't need to fight. I've completed Fallout 3 in less than 2 hours before without using glitches. I'm sure I could do the same for Oblivion since the main quest isn't all that long, really.

There was a way in Morrowwind to boost your stats arbitrarily high and beat it in no time flat IIRC, but maybe that was the 20 minute solution.

I don't get the dislike for the character models. For Arena and Daggerfall, they were as good as the technology of the time would perimt. Morrowwind's were a bit funky for being a few years newer than EQ but they also were more detailed and.. the fact that they were less naked may have contributed to the dislike. Oblivion's were excellent and very highly customizable.

With Morrowind you didn't need high stats, the boss-level was directly correlated to your level. You could theoretically beat it without levelling at all and it would be as challenging as at 34.
