My situation.

I usually sleep less than 6 hours a day. Recently I've gotten the chance on my day off to sleep more than 6 hours and every time I do, I wake up with extremely tight hamstrings, back and neck/traps. The type of soreness one might have the day after a tough deadlifting/pull up workout.

I've alternated my workouts so I'm going heavy in the morning, giving myself the day to shake off any DOMS. No dice. I've changed my routine so my rest day is before my day off. Still sore if I sleep more than 6 hours. Ibproufin before bed- still sore in the morning. Doesn't matter where I sleep, what position etc. the only constant is that if I sleep more than 6 hours I wake up sore like I described.

Has anyone here ever had to deal with this, or know a specfic medical term for the issue? My general prac of course just wants to start writing perscriptions for things, which I told her I'm not interested in. Plus it's only the one day of the week where I can "sleep in" (meaning perhaps 8 hours.)

Or: if you need more info about what I am/am not doing in order to have an opinion lemme know

I've definitely been sore but not sure if I could ever relate it to how long I slept. Cure to all my tightness issues has always been a good solid stretch.

Do you have an AC or fan on you at night? Cold air might be contributing too.

nothing blowing on me, and while I am getting "old" (bastage) I haven't been able to link any cause to this effect except sleep duration.

So my solution? sleep less.... yeah sucks a big fat one to be honest. Upside? Noone in the gym when I go.

Maybe stretch before bed? Make sure you're hydrated? Not sure on this one tbh.

A bit of a shot in the dark...how old is your mattress? I've been having similar issues, but mine is all mid back pain that wakes me up, but goes away within minutes of getting up and moving around. Usually get it about 6 hours after going to bed. My mattress is like 12 years old, so I'm going to be replacing it soon and seeing if that helps.

Try swapping pillows, if you use two, switch to one, if you have one replace it.
