If you are at the checkout of a grocery store:
DO - Have your form of payment ready. If you're writing a check, fill in as much as you can while the cashier is ringing up items.
DON'T - Wait until the cashier announces the total before realizing that yes, you have to pay, then start digging through your purse for your checkbook, or your bag of pennies.
DO - Let the cashier know if you want to buy a bag of ice or a pack of smokes as early as possible in the checkout process.
DON'T - Wait until the cashier has finished ringing up your groceries and has bagged everything before announcing that you want an additional item.
DO - Make sure you have all the groceries you plan to buy when you reach the cash register.
DON'T - Make everyone wait while your son/daughter/sister/brother/wife/cousin/neighbor/servant crosses the entire store to pick up the milk you didn't put in your cart the first time.

If you are in a parking lot:
DO - Pull into a damn parking space.
DON'T - Cause 6 cars to get stuck because you stopped in the middle of the through-way to have a conversation with your wife before finally letting her out of the car in front of the store.

If you are driving down the road and miss your turnoff:
DO - Continue on the road, then turn around when it's safe and not disruptive to do so.
DON'T - Stop in the middle of the road and start backing up to return to the road you missed.

I'm guilty of that last one, but only in the country when I look behind and see no one is there.

Also people holding conversations in thoroughfares is my pet peeve.

When shopping for clothes:

DO: ask a sales associate to measure your neck and arms.
DONT: open 50 dress shirts guessing on your size.

DO: Stick pins on the magnet provided in the fitting room.
DONT: use the stool as a giant pincushion.

(maybe I'll add more later)

DO: Turn on your blinker, then turn promptly at your street, driveway, or parking lot
DO NOT: Turn on your blinker, move half onto the shoulder and half still in the lane, slow down to 50% of the speed limit, then come to a near stop before turning right, especially on major roads.

DO: Decide what you will order before you get to the order board at the drivethrough. You already know damn well that they serve
DO NOT: Wait until you get to the order window then ask everyone what they want. Also, do not customize your order at the drivethrough. Order it as is. If you want a custom order, take your *** inside.

It's like the accepted method here in south Texas... for about half the people. The other half turn like normal human beings.

It's pretty much the same here in Boise.

If you are a cashier at a grocery store:
DO: Ring up my items and put them in bags.
DON'T: Hold my package of chicken leg quarters and stare blankly into space.

DO Relax and let folks be somewhat slower than you. It won't take that much time out of your day.
DON'T Stress out, sigh, and get all pushy. It'll be ok. If you can't wait in line, use the self checkout.

Ok, F that. People have a right to read the menu. Jesus.

DO: If you burst through a door, cut off and knock over a pregnant woman, run like hell.
DON'T: Be standing nearby when her husband finishes making sure she's ok.

Completely disagree. Just because someone is waiting in a car instead of at the counter doesn't mean they can't get exactly what they want. "BK. Have it your way. On the inside." Mellow out :P

It's not the folks that order off-menu, it's the slow *** rejects who always seem to get lumped on the same shift.

Special orders are fine. People who act like they have no **** clue what they want to eat until it's their turn (this happens more frequently inside than drive-thru, in my experiences) to order, then hemming and hawing around for five minutes annoy the **** out of me. Particularly if you're inside, you can look at the damn menu while you're standing in line. Don't chat up your friends for the ten minutes you're standing there, decide what the **** you want, then chat.

How can you not know what you want when pulling up to the drive-thru? It's not like fast food menus change much.

Don't get me started on self-checkout lanes.

I wouldn't mind self-checkout lanes if I received a price break.

Shel is totally incapable of pausing a conversation to look at a menu. We walk into Wendy's and I break the conversation so we can decide and he gripes about me interrupting him, then he's ***** the rest of the evening.
